Landover was a genuine magic kingdom, with fairy folk and wizardry, just as the advertisement promised. But after he purchased it, Ben Holiday learned that there were a few details the ad had failed to mention. The kingdom was in ruin. The Barons refused to recognize the king, and the peasants were without hope. A dragon was laying waste the countryside, while an evil witch plotted to destroy everything. Ben's only followers were the incompetent Court Magician; Abernathy, the talking dog who served as Court Scribe; and the lovely Willow - but she had a habit of putting down roots in the moonlight and turning into a tree. The Paladin, legendary champion of the Kings of Landover, seemed to be only a myth and an empty suit of armor.

To put a final touch on the whole affair, Ben soon learned that the Iron Mark, terrible lord of the demons, had challenged all prospective Kings of Landover to a duel to the death - a duel which no human could hope to win. The task of proving his right to be King seemed hopeless. But Ben Holiday was stubborn.

" This book was a very fun adventure. In my opinion, the more I read, the better it got. I think I liked "The Black Unicorn" story the best. Brooks did a great job describing the world of Landover. Sometimes I thought the descriptions were a little wordy, but vivid nonetheless. Very imaginative. "

" Great book all around. This reminded me that fantasy novels dont have to be dark gritty and contain a thousand characters to make it work. If you want a light, fun fantasy read give this a shot and you won't be disappointed. "

" A great trilogy. Each story unique yet keeping with the basic theme. A person could also see the parody between the magical world of Landover and our world. I thoroughly enjoyed the first story and the second and third built on it. A great fantasy. "

" Did you ever want to check out of this world and into another and start over? This is an adventuresome fantasy tale of someone who did and Mr. Brooks writes it so well you feel like you have. One of those you don't want to put down and can't wait to get to the next one in the series. "

" I only read the first two books in this collection, they were good. Even fun, some would say, but I just did not care to read the last book, "Wizard at Large". I will probably regret this decision and at some point read it...but not now, not with my to-read pile growing larger by the minute. "

" My love for Terry Brooks started with this book.
The formula is simple: leave it all behind and start a new life ... with wizards, witches, dragons, and many other strange creatures.
It's pure fantasy and for me it means pure joy.
