The decision to publish the book has been very difficult, and taken with heavy hearts... My reason for writing it is simple: to give an account of the truth...

Writing this memoir has entailed recording some very personal, intimate and emotional aspects of our lives. Sharing these with strangers does not come easily to me, but if I hadn't done so I would not have felt the book gave as full a picture as it is possible for me to give.

As with every action we have taken over the last four years, it ultimately boils down to whether what we are doing could help us to find Madeleine. When the answer to that question is yes, or even possibly, our family can cope with anything... nothing is more important to us than finding our little girl.

Gerry McCann says: It is a sad fact that not a single police force anywhere is proactively looking forMadeleine (as is the case for many other missing children). I am sure this book will re-energize the search for our daughter and the public will get behind the Find Madeleine campaign once again. It is simply unacceptable that the authorities could give up on Madeleine - especially without a single review of the case having been carried out. Our daughter, and whoever took her, are out there. We need your help to find them.

" I read this book as I wanted to hear the other side of the story. It gives a shocking insight into the freedom the press have to say what they like without the need for fact. It didn't help me understand any better what could have happened to this poor girl. I'm not glad I read it and I'm not sure why Kate published it (I understand why she wrote it...) other than to find the continued search which I suppose is a good enough reason in itself. "

" I think it was interesting to read the story from the "inside". I hope Madeleine comes home! "

" This book is harrowing, but a very important account by the mother of Madeleine McCann of the events surrounding before and since Madeleine's disappearance. I can't begin to understand how or why people still find no sympathy for them or feel it necessary to judge them. What they have gone through no human being should go through, or have to go through. They made an innocent mistake, one that parents have done without consequences millions of times before. My heart absolutely goes out to them and I hope so much Madeleine will be returned safe and alive to them soon. "

" For a book that is meant to be the truth, there is a hell of a lot in this that has contradicted statements that they, and their friends have made. It's just opened up more questions imo. "

" There's a tough lesson learned....Don't EVER leave your kids in an apartment by themselves, especially in a foreign country. Poor Madeleine, i hope one day she is found but it's highly unlikely. "

" What a heartbreaking story! So nice to hear all the facts as they enfolded and not what the media wanted us to believe! It's true that none of us are aware of the full extent of the problem of child abduction in the world - the facts and figures are astounding. "
