As a lover of animals and nature, Beatrix Hathaway has always been more comfortable outdoors than in the ballroom. Even though she participated in the London season in the past, the classic beauty and free-spirited Beatrix has never been swept away or seriously courted...and she has resigned herself to the fate of never finding love. Has the time come for the most unconventional of the Hathaway sisters to settle for an ordinary man - just to avoid spinsterhood?
Captain Christopher Phelan is a handsome, daring soldier who plans to marry Beatrix's friend, the vivacious flirt Prudence Mercer, when he returns from fighting abroad. But, as he explains in his letters to Pru, life on the battlefield has darkened his soul - and it's becoming clear that Christopher won't come back as the same man. When Beatrix learns of Pru's disappointment, she decides to help by concocting Pru's letters to Christopher for her. Soon the correspondence between Beatrix and Christopher develops into something fulfilling and deep...and when Christopher comes home, he's determined to claim the woman he loves. What began as Beatrix's innocent deception has resulted in the agony of unfulfilled love - and a passion that can't be denied...

"Book 5 ..... The way this one started with the correspondence was interesting. It was a difficult was to get to know the characters (especially under the false pretense), but in the course of the letters, the true nature of each character showed through with vivid colors. While Beatrix has always seemed so young (she is the youngest of the Hathaways), she finally grew up in this one. So nice to see. While there were a few moments seeing other members of the family, I wish for the final installment of this series that there had been more. So sad to see the Hathaways over and can only hope that I will enjoy some of Lisa Kleypas others series." — Debbie (4 out of 5 stars)

" I still have yet to read a book by Lisa Kleypas that I haven't enjoyed at some level. However, I have to say that I didn't quite enjoy this one as much as the others in the series. While I understood Christopher wanting to be protective of Beatrix, his refusal to even try sleeping in the same bed with her even AFTER they were married got on my nerves. But it was still good and even with my gripes I thought it was a great ending to the series. "
" I adore the Hathaways! "
" If you want to read GREAT romance, pick Kleypas. "
" So sweet :3 "
" I've read the entire Hathaway series. I love them all!!! Although Beatrix story is probably my favorite. I love her character. "
" Best out of the Hathaway series. Beyond romantic and really funny. Beatrix is wonderful. "
" I love the family dynamic so much and the novel is quite funny. "
" The best!!! I love sweet and innocent Beatriux. Her complete love of animals and kind heart and too cute and funny. I would occasionly be upset with Christopher and his mood swigs but you see that it works out. "
" Loved loved loved these last two books by LK! I am usually not the biggest fan of letters in my romance novels, but the correspondence between Chris and Bea were just fabulously sweet and endearing. I do have to admit I liked Leo and Marks' story best of the two ;) "
" This series is bubble gum to me right now. I know that I've probably read some of the early books in this series, but I'm game for a re-read. Thank goodness for great girlfriends sharing great books! "
" The fifth and final book in the Hathaway series. A good ending. Loved this quirky family. "
" Ooo I really liked this book, too. Beatrice's is so independent, loyal, true to her character. This book was very satisfying. Captain Phelan is unwittingly Beatrice's perfect match. His love for her undeniably soul searing. "
" So lovely...one of Lisa Kleypas' most magical works. "
" I had to skip a few passages, but a good story with kind and supportive characters. "

" Oh, what a sweet story. A great mix of Pride and Prejudice and Cyrano DeBurgiac. (listened to it on trip to AK.) "
" I adored this book and it's defnitely one I can see myself rereading in the future. "
" The Hathaways were as charming as ever, but my enjoyment of this book was greatly hampered by how dumb the hero was. "
" Bea was great. It was a satisfying end to the Hathaways. I really enjoyed them. I liked the Wallflowers a tad bit better. I am sad these are done though. Anyone like her other series' as much as these two? "
