Publisher Description

Jan Valjean, que despues de ir a la carcel por robar un pedazo de pan, es inmisericordemente perseguido por un agente de la autoridad, Valjean, que trata de mostrar que el pasado ha convertido al hombre en un criminal.

Hugo's classic tale set against the backdrop of political upheaval in 19th-century France retains its timeless appeal in this notably condensed rendition of the struggles of former convict Jean Valjean.

"History and fiction my favorite mixe...I read this book in French some 14 years ago..I am still touched by the passion of the characteres it is beautifully written...Hugo has an attention to details close to a filmaker, the book reads like a movie but with more insight into the characteres mind...a must read"

" Yay, I finally finished listening to it! Aside from all the bunny trails, which I skipped through, it was very good. Highly recommended. And much better and more nuanced than the movie/Broadway play. "

" I really liked the book. There are many things that are in the book that are not in the movie. I definitely recommend the book even though it is 1200 pages. It is totally worth it. LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "

" It was actually a 3 hour abridged radio theater version I listened to on CD, but it was awesome. Minus all the history and politics of Hugo's full length tale, it had plenty of drama, action, and of course, forgiveness.... "

" My mother gave this book to me when I was eleven....I think that explains much of how I see the world. I ended up on a long journey into domestic novels--led me all the way to my dissertation eventually. Don't read if you hate sensory detail! "

" The unabridged took me forever to read, but it really was quite interesting. Not only was the plot enhanced, but I learned a lot of strange yet interesting things about convents, sewers, and little French children who live on the street. Would definitely recommend to anyone who likes thick books. "

About Victor Hugo

Jim Hodges began reading aloud in the second grade with a stirring rendition of Dick and Jane. He continued to volunteer to speak throughout his schooling years, performed as a newscaster while in the Navy, and participated in community theater groups. His wife, Monica, once asked what his dream job would be. He answered, “I’d record books.” And so began Jim Hodges Audio Books, producing unabridged recordings of the G. A. Henty historical novels, children’s books, Overtly Christian titles, and classic literature.
