" I love all the Hornblower books. "

" Wow. I am continually amazed at how Hornblower manages the situations in which he finds himself. He rarely has to compromise his morals and beliefs while maintaining the rules and regs of the Navy. To be such an integral part of the fall of Napoleon- well I didn't expect anything less. And then there is Bush... when I read of his death I was on a plane and found myself sobbing as I read the words. My fellow passengers thought I was nuts, but they didn't love Bush like I did! :-) I kept hoping he would thump his way back to the town but alas, he was really gone. The affair with the french girl was annoying at best, but I'll chock it up to mourning. The ending was the most shocking- I seriously thought that it couldn't be any worse. Less and less pages were left and I couldn't see ho he would extricate himself from this situation, and then there it was. I think I honestly felt as relived as Hornblower at that moment. "

" I really enjoyed this - but then I always do. The difference with this on was the unexpected turns in the novel around previously key supporting characters. However, Hornblower, as always comes through. "

" Entertaining story, but I can't help thinking that I would rather that it had left me with a better opinion of Horatio. I love that he is a flawed character, but this seemed like a bit much. I can only hope that the next book will redeem him. "

" The book started off on a good note, in trying to solving the problem of mutineers and didn't look like any decision taken will show him in bad light but as always Hornblower came out smelling like rose. The book went terrible after this with no action and silly romances. "
