George was only three when he was first sent to a children's home. Now he is twelve and he's already tried six different foster homes. But none of them have worked out, and this summer holiday he's being sent to stay on the Dyers' farm. Usually he can't wait to get back to his solitude at the children's home, but this year is different. With Tom Dyer and his younger sister Storme, George has a great time working on the farm. He grows to feel needed and wanted in a way he hasn't known before. He begins to trust Tom and Storme. He even owns up that he doesn't know how to swim and allows Tom to teach him. So when Mrs Dyer has an accident and he has to return to the children's home, he is devastated....

Michael Morpurgo, former Children’s Laureate of Britain, is the author of War Horse, called “superb” by the New York Times Book Review and now a major motion picture. Michael Maloney is an actor who has appeared in numerous television productions, including as Romeo in Romeo and Juliet and Prince Hal in Henry IV, parts 1 and 2, for which he won Best Actor/Best Supporting Actor awards. His theater credits include Sleuth, Peer Gynt, and All My Sons, and his film credits include The Young Victoria and Notes on a Scandal. He has narrated numerous audiobooks, earning seven AudioFile Earphones Awards.
