A girl who's always been in the shadows finds herself pursued by the unbelievably attractive new boy at school, who may or may not be the death of her. Another girl grows up mute because of a curse placed on her by a vindictive spirit, and later must decide whether to utter her first words to the boy she loves and risk killing everyone who hears her if the curse is real. And a third girl discovers that the real reason for her transient life with her mother has to do with belonging - literally belonging - to another world entirely, full of dreaded creatures who can transform into animals, and whose queen keeps little girls as personal pets until they grow to childbearing age.

From a writer of unparalleled imagination and emotional insight, three stories about the deliciousness of wanting and waiting for that moment when lips touch.

" I have never rated a book of short stories this high. The first two stories I really liked but the last Hatchling was fantastic! Laini Taylor can do for me in a short story what some authors can't do in a whole novel... I felt so connected to these characters I didn't want it to end. "

" "Fantasy" doesn't do this book justice, as this as good scary fantasy, not romantic fluffy fantasy. oh, there's kissing alright but it is mixed with death and eroticism and the otherworld. Great language, surprise after surprise, I loved it. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Kathleen | 11/12/2012

" It's like the more fantastic parts of Tam Lin, and like something Joss Whedon would do. I liked the first and third stories better than the second one. "

" My only disappointment was that I thought this book was a novel, not a collection of short stories when I ordered it. I absolutely loved the Goblin's Market and the first story took my breath away. Sexy, incredible. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Talyn | 5/12/2011

" The art pages were beautifully drawn and interesting in their own way. This book features three stories that involve other-worldly creatures or supernatural elements. I disliked the third story the most, I don't know why. My favorite was the first one. "
