" First science fiction book I read in a few years after Frank Herbert. One word: mindblowing. From worldbuilding, characters and action, this book takes you in the middle of a war that isn't what it seems. A must for fantasy, horror and sci-fi fans. "

" Great summer read for a science fiction lover, but I did have the feeling that I had read it before. Despite this I did enjoy it. Although you can just read this book and be happy it is definitely set up for a follow up book. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Karl Schaeffer | 1/24/2014

" Space Opera! Murder, mayhem and political intrigue. Mining Asteroids, Colonies on the gas giant moons. Mars is being terraformed; and only earth can made good cheese. Watch out for the prehistoric, alien proto- molecule. It's mold to the nth power. Oh yeah, by the way, the Mormons are leaving the solar system on a generations ship. Great book. Good plot. Gritty SF. Can't wait for the next one "

" This book started off good and just got better. I'm really looking forward to reading the next one in the series. More or less realistic science, with the fiction only coming in where necessary. "

" Space opera, yeah! Loved the switching narrator, characters are complex and real. The ending is tense, and quite deliciously drawn out. "

" Brilliant. Couldn't help but compare it with Whedon's Serenity in plot line and humor, but in the best sense possible. I'm only on my second day reading it and I only have 100 more pages to go. Couldn't put it down. "

" Excellent action sequences. So much details put into how how the characters react and coordinate through these parts - they read like live action footage. I was literally weeping through some of the heaviest gun fights! "

" Absolutely solid military scifi with a space opera chaser. Interesting, likeable but flawed characters pull you in and keep you turning pages as the author chases down a number of converging storylines. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Sharon Tiplady | 9/13/2011

" Woo hoo! What a ride! A great story with excellent characters and plenty of spine-tingling plot twists. Getting the second book soon. Can't wait to see what happens next. "

" Good hard sf, but while it has some strong female characters, none of them talk to each other. Interesting alternating POVs. Big Dumb (or not so dumb) Object sort of story. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Derek | 5/30/2011

" Very entertaining and believable - not quite up to Peter Hamilton standard as claimed on the cover but I will definitely read more (and there will be more, I'm certain). "

" Amazing social science fiction driven by character..."Leviathan Wakes" presents a believable world filled with all the prejudice and conflict that you would expect of mankind made it to space. So worth a read in a time of great new space opera... This is the new social SF.... "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Tom | 5/17/2011

" Great read. Very complex story of different factions in a near future solar system. Nice twist with a surprising ending. "

" A very enjoyable old-style space opera that made great comfort reading for an old SF reader like me. I would actually give this 3.5 stars, if I could. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Richard | 5/7/2011

Comment: Great Space Jockey/Noire Mystery hybrid "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Stargrave | 4/29/2011

" Very exciting opening, but the scope of the ending seemed a little strange. It does open it up for sequels though. Also when the two Povs were together in the story, the shifting seemed unnecessarily confusing.

I'm interested in seeing where it goes from here "
