The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a mystical short story in which people meet creatures from a thin world - ghosts, witches and sorcerers. In 1799, in New York State, Ichabod Crane, a schoolteacher, investigates a string of murders in the town of Sleepy Hollow. Frightened locals keep talking about a Headless Horseman - the vengeful ghost of a British soldier killed in the area. Being a rationalist, Crane does not believe in the legend of the horseman, but even he, with his bright, logical thinking, cannot explain the series of murders becoming more terrible and mysterious. The ghost also revives some dreadful episodes from his childhood....

About Washington Irving

Washinton Irving (1783–1859), American essayist, novelist, and historian, was born in New York to a wealthy merchant. He studied law, but because of his delicate health, his family sent him on a tour of Europe, where he collected material later used in his stories and essays. The first American author to achieve international fame, his literary career served in many ways to consolidate the cultures of the United States and Europe.
