" Oh, very nice! This is definitely living up to the promise of the first book, although it's a bit more straightforward; I may be somewhat forgiving because it definitely has a middle-book feel to it. Is the series is actually intended to be a trilogy? I feel like I should have re-read Foundling before launching into this, because it follows quite directly from the first book character-arc-wise as well as time-wise. (There's a massive glossary in the appendix in the back -- seriously, massive: the appendix is a hundred pages long! -- but I generally don't find that sort of thing helpful for characterization.) I may have to buy both of these books and keep them on hand for when the third one comes out, in fact. "
