"Even though this was written for children a couple of centuries ago I would recommend it for young adults and anyone who would like to understand Shakespeare better. Charles Lamb retold the tragedies and his sister Mary reold the comedies. They did a superb job of telling the stories including some of Shakespeare's original. I've read that Lamb revived the popularity of Shakespeare in the early 1800s."

" Overall, I wasn't particularly impressed with this book. The online description made it sound more interesting than it was. Granted, it is an excellent way to quickly come to grips with the basic plots of most of Shakespeare's plays. However, I can think of better ways to learn about Shakespeare than to read a collection of longwinded summaries. Worth a look but not that great in the end. "

" This is the copy I bought for my children in 1976 which is a fascsimile of the 1909 Edition and is illustrated by Arthur Rackham. Whenever I attend a Shakespearn play, I not only read the play, but read Charles & Mary Lamb's synopsis. It's a great resource. "

" This re-taling of Shakespeare classics is great. I enjoy reading them to my chilren. They are shortened a lot but the language is not over-simplified. The book was written in 1807 and a lot of the wording is directly from the original plays so my younger children don't understand everything. "
