This novel, known in English as Camille, is based on the real life story of a parisian courtesan. It narrates the touching sacrifice of the heroine in behalf of a girl that she doesn't even knows. All the absurdity of social conventions is revealed in this masterpiece.

" I really wanted to like it but had to force myself to keep reading almost every time after getting tired from the wordiness Dumas kept filling the story with. The story itself was fine as a romantic story not unlike the star-crossed lovers', but I guess I would've liked it better if it was shortened to half its length. "
