Holmes en un alarde de su impetuosidad habitual se presenta en la casa de Watson auto invitándose a pasar la noche allí, pero tiene sus razones: al día siguiente por la mañana temprano pide a Watson que le acompañe para intentar resolver el caso del muy extraño fallecimiento del coronel Barclay. El coronel era un respetado militar que estaba felizmente casado y cuya muerte no tiene explicación de clase alguna. Tras oír el personal de servicio discutir al matrimonio, cuando consiguieron entrar a la habitación, que curiosamente estaba cerrada con llave, el coronel estaba muerto en el suelo junto a su esposa que estaba desmayada. Todo parece indicar que la mujer es la asesina de su marido.

About Arthur Conan Doyle
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930) was born of Irish parentage in Scotland. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, but he also had a passion for storytelling. His first book introduced that prototype of the modern detective in fiction, Sherlock Holmes. Despite the immense popularity Holmes gained throughout the world, Doyle was not overly fond of the character and preferred to write other stories. Eventually popular demand won out and he continued to satisfy readers with the adventures of the legendary sleuth. He also wrote historical romances and made two essays into pseudoscientific fantasy: The Lost World and The Poison Belt.
