Publisher Description

Sylvie and Carl have been friends since they were tiny children. They've always played together, eaten meals with each other's families, called each other boyfriend and girlfriend...and deep down, Sylvie has always believed that they'll end up married to each other. They even have a magical fantasy world that belongs to them alone, as does the Glass Hut where it's all created, at the bottom of Carl's garden.

But as they become teenagers, things begin to change. They go to different schools and have different friends. Sylvie still wishes she could spend all her time with Carl. But Carl has a new friend, Paul, who is taking all his attention. Carl seems much less happy to be called Sylvie's boyfriend and in a game of spin the bottle, he avoids kissing her. Sylvie can tell his feelings have changed and that her plans for the future may be affected. But can she guess at the true reasons behind it all?

"To be honest I hadn't really read the synopsis when I bought this book, so initially I had expected it to be the book the Doctor was reading in The Angels Take Manhattan. When I started reading it and realised that this wasn't the case, I was pleasantly surprised. It is actually a prequel, if you will, of the episode. If you're a fan of River Song, which I am, then this is the book for you. It's 100% sass and sexy, and very much in-character. I could definitely hear Alex Kingston's voice in my head as I was reading it. It's a great background story which really sets the tone for the episode The Angels Take Manhattan. So if you love Doctor Who and you love River Song, then this is definitely the book for you. Just download it, it's not expensive, and I can guarantee that you won't regret it."

" Cute, fun, funny, and very short ebook to tie in with the Doctor Who episode The Angels Take Manhattan. Very in keeping with the character of River Song - I loved the witty way it was written and the narrative did a very good job of combining the atmosphere of a noirish, pulpy mystery with near-constant wisecracks and puns. There probably won't be any more of these but if they were written, I would certainly read them! "

" This was a funny, punny, silly little River Song adventure. The "About the Author" might have been my favorite part, and I laughed out loud more than once. "

" I quite enjoyed this Dr Who spinoff. I like Justin Richards' work, but while this is an entertaining story, the writing is pretty clunky and River Song's characterisation is pretty annoying with way too many double entendres and wisecracks. Overall, good story, but needing some restraint in the writing department. "

" A bit campy, and not that great of a parody of detective novels, but it was okay. Not great, not "OMG I can't wait to read it again" but it got me through at least part of a flight so it has that going for it at least. "

" Truthfully this really is 2.5 stars but its Doctor Who and well I just love all things DW. It's completely cheeky in that film noir style not to mention how sultry yet bad ass River Song, I mean Melody Malone is. I smiled but nothing was really thrilling about it it was just a nice snack to hold me over until the Christmas Special! "

" Loved this book. I love that it ties in with The Angels Take Manhattan perfecly. Now I've read one of the books The Doctor has read. Being the first book I've seen from River Song's (one of my favorite people) point of view made it great. It was like having a sneak peak inside River's brain. This one will be worth a second read. " I loved Melody's voice. I could really see Alex Kingston delivering her lines. Much fun. On the other hand, the plot reminded me of a certain movie. The Weeping Angel was doing something that's been unheard of until now and it was a bit puzzling. "

" I expected it to be closer to what we saw during "Angels Take Manhattan". Its not a bad story, but very short and outside of the Angels, other than a few hints about time and Doctors with a capital D, there are no Doctor Who elements in the story. "
