Publisher Description

You wanted the truth, you got the truth - the hottest book in the world!

Fueled by an explosive mix of makeup, costumes, and attitude, KISS burst onto the music scene 30 years ago and has become a rock institution. The band has sold more than 80 million records, has broken every concert attendance record set by Elvis Presley and the Beatles, stands behind the Beatles alone in number of gold records from any group in history, and has spawned more than 2,500 licenses.

There would have been no KISS without Gene Simmons, the outrageous star whose superlong tongue, legendary sexual exploits, and demonic makeup have made him a rock icon. KISS and Make-Up is the wild, shocking, unbelievable story, from the man himself, about how an immigrant boy from Israel studied to be a rabbi, was saved by rock and roll, and became one of the most notorious rock stars the world has ever seen.

"Gene was an 8 year old immigrant when he came to America with his beautiful mama. He was a young boy with big dreams who loved comic book super heros. He followed his dream and created an empire. He is a very smart man. I especially loved how he evoloved into a family man. Shannon and his 2 gorgeous children mean the world to him. I really enjoyed this book."

" Ahhh Gene. . . he's never met a dollar he didn't like, and he is always quite impressed with himself. He is a master showman, a savvy businessman and of course, a rock god. I found some of his assertions a little tough to swallow--like that he has NEVER touched alcohol or drugs--but all in all, this is a solid rock bio. Except if you are Peter Criss or Ace Frehley. Holy cow, do they get skewered. "

" Sure he's arrogant. Sure, hes a womanizer and at times even chauvinistic (ok, most of the time..). But I can't help be be fascinated by the story behind of one of the most iconic and interesting bands of the rock and roll era. This book is quite easy to read (lots of pictures) and while it doesn't make me want to run out and buy the entire Kiss Catalog or become a member of the Kiss Army, it certainly makes me excited to listen to their greatest hits again. " Simmons was way too biased in this book. I think that I'd rather hear the story told by an unbiased third party. Also, Gene is too materialistic, which is very evident in his writing also. "

" Gene Simmons talks about pussy and money for 270 pages. Apparently, the obnoxious prick played music, too. The best way to read this is to go to the bookstore, look up "Frehley, Paul 'Ace' " in the back, and read just the pages listed there. "
