You wanted the truth, you got the truth - the hottest book in the world!

Fueled by an explosive mix of makeup, costumes, and attitude, KISS burst onto the music scene 30 years ago and has become a rock institution. The band has sold more than 80 million records, has broken every concert attendance record set by Elvis Presley and the Beatles, stands behind the Beatles alone in number of gold records from any group in history, and has spawned more than 2,500 licenses.

There would have been no KISS without Gene Simmons, the outrageous star whose superlong tongue, legendary sexual exploits, and demonic makeup have made him a rock icon. KISS and Make-Up is the wild, shocking, unbelievable story, from the man himself, about how an immigrant boy from Israel studied to be a rabbi, was saved by rock and roll, and became one of the most notorious rock stars the world has ever seen.

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Gina | 2/6/2014

" Gene was an 8 year old immigrant when he came to America with his beautiful mama. He was a young boy with big dreams who loved comic book super heros. He followed his dream and created an empire. He is a very smart man. I especially loved how he evoloved into a family man. Shannon and his 2 gorgeous children mean the world to him. I really enjoyed this book. "

" Ahhh Gene. . . he's never met a dollar he didn't like, and he is always quite impressed with himself. He is a master showman, a savvy businessman and of course, a rock god. I found some of his assertions a little tough to swallow--like that he has NEVER touched alcohol or drugs--but all in all, this is a solid rock bio. Except if you are Peter Criss or Ace Frehley. Holy cow, do they get skewered. "

" I enjoyed learning about Gene's youth as an Israeli child and a yeshiva student in NY, but lost interest in his later exploits "

" Sure he's arrogant. Sure, hes a womanizer and at times even chauvinistic (ok, most of the time..). But I can't help be be fascinated by the story behind of one of the most iconic and interesting bands of the rock and roll era. This book is quite easy to read (lots of pictures) and while it doesn't make me want to run out and buy the entire Kiss Catalog or become a member of the Kiss Army, it certainly makes me excited to listen to their greatest hits again. "

" Gene ROCKS!! I have always loved KISS and Gene. However, this book really gives you a good insight to the man behind the makeup. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Carl Kilgore | 10/31/2013

" I loved the insight in this book. Probably wouldn't appeal to someone who didn't like the band KISS to begin with but you will learn things you didn't know and things you assumed to be true will be corrected if you weren't a fan. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Big | 9/18/2013

" Simmons was way too biased in this book. I think that I'd rather hear the story told by an unbiased third party. Also, Gene is too materialistic, which is very evident in his writing also. "

" vh1 behind the music has ruined me and i cant get enough of this crap. the only thing really learned is exactly how little music means to gene simmons. which makes sense if you've ever heard kiss. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Ryan Werner | 6/3/2011

" Gene Simmons talks about pussy and money for 270 pages. Apparently, the obnoxious prick played music, too. The best way to read this is to go to the bookstore, look up "Frehley, Paul 'Ace' " in the back, and read just the pages listed there. "

" After reading Ace's book, I think Gene's is quite inferior. Don't get me wrong, Gene had a great a great story, but it wasn't as touching as Ace's. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Amy | 5/21/2011

" Although Gene is QUITE self absorbed.. and I don't agree with alot of his behaviours or ways of thinking, he is very intelligent. The book was very interesting to me. Not only because of how he began and ended up, but also because as a teen I LOVED KISS =) "

" I really like Gene Simmons, and I really liked his other book - KISS and Make up. However, I couldn't stand reading this book. Halfway through, I got sick of reading all of the women-bashing, etc, that I needed to stop reading. Waste of time. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Jeremy | 4/19/2009
