"Wow! I was amazed to find so many reviews on this book. I went to school with the author's sister in "Hullsport" and the book got some pretty scathing reviews from the locals at the time. I need to re-read it as an adult without the parental biases and defiance to it. "

" Perhaps I should persevere with this. After all, Doris Lessing praised it. But it doesn't speak to me at all. It may be dated, a typical 1970s feminist novel that I mght have liked in my teens or twenties. Today, I'm giving up less than halfway through. "

" Highly praised period piece. Not Salinger, but very well done to the point of actuall being interesting most of the time. Wanted more resonance with my own experience, but you can't expect that to happen very often, can you. "

" I first read this years ago and loved it. I was a young adult trying to find where I fit in the world so Kinflicks resonated with me. It made me laugh, cringe uncomfortably and laugh again. "

" Read and enjoyed almost 30 years ago!! Seem to remember it's sense of life and the unique experience (for me a young male at the time) of seeing the world through a female protagonist's eyes. Probably need to re-read and see what I think now. "

" A good book despite the main character being a little annoying. I found it hard to sympathise with her, and she ended up in some bizarre and often funny situations. It is a fascinating insight into feminist views of 30 years ago, and life in the deep south. Odd ending but I still rate this book. "

" Bizarre book. It seems pretty normal coming of age narrative but then it has crazy sort of unbelievable shit too. I liked it, it kept me reading. I thought the characters were flat though, Ginny was shallow and cold, her mother bitter and cold and the only character I really felt for was poor Wendy. "
