Romantic suspense superstar Linda Howard’s seductive New York Times bestseller “meshes hot sex, emotional impact, and gripping tension” (Publishers Weekly) into a sizzling, heart-pounding thriller!

Still reeling from her mother’s recent death, Karen Whitlaw is stunned when she receives a package containing a mysterious notebook from her estranged father, whom she has barely seen since his return from the Vietnam War decades ago. Then, a shocking phone call: Karen’s father has been murdered on the gritty streets of New Orleans.

For homicide detective Marc Chastain, something about the case of a murdered homeless man just doesn’t add up—especially after he meets the victim’s daughter. Far from the cold woman he expected, Karen Whitlaw is warm and passionate. She is also in serious danger. A string of “accidents” have shaken Karen to the core, and forced her into the protective embrace of the charming detective she vowed to resist. Together they unravel a disturbing story of politics, power, and murder—and face a killer who will stop at nothing to get his hands on her father’s secrets.

" Read this several years ago. It is one of those books, you can read over and over. Love the Medina series!!! "

" This was more like a 3.5. I thought it was a good story and liked both Karen and Marc, but I felt their romance was rushed. "

" I read all 3 John Medina books, and this one was my least favorite. The story line is fine, but I did not like the lead man as much as Linda Howard's other men. The 2nd book which focuses on John Medina as the lead male character is one of my favorite Linda Howard books. "

" At least it was a quick read. Again with the babies...why is it necessary for these women to not feel complete without the possibility of children. Why can't smart, professional women just enjoy the relationship without it seeming like children have to exist for complete happiness. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Eva | 1/25/2012

" Great romantic suspense. I don't think I have found a Linda Howard book that I haven't liked. On to the next book in the series. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Anita | 12/20/2011

" I thought this story was very gripping. Howard went into the necessary background to make her characters believable. I liked the snarky lines about the hospital environment. And, the mystery was kept until the very end. "

" I keep buying this books at Goodwill by telling myself "I'll give this to Nora," but then I make sure to read them first. This was fairly standard Linda Howard stuff, cops and killers and sex and spies. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Peggy | 5/31/2011

" I listened to this one. I would have given it a 4 starts if she didn't feel compelled to try to turn it into porn. I fast forwarded the story several times because that just isn't necessary. "

" Very Fast Read! Loved the characters, and the story was believeable. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating, is I felt like it could have been more in depth! Great read overall, would recommend it! Of course, I'm bias when it comes to Linda Howard, I love ALL her books! "
