Publisher Description

Imagine a time and space traveler from another planet. One that looks human and exemplifies the ideal world he comes from, a world free from human nature's greed and cruelty. That creature would be prot, as he calls himself, the newest patient at the Manhattan Psychiatric Institute.

Prot seems to know more than he should about faster-than-the-speed-of-light-travel. And besides drawing constellations as viewed from K-PAX, the name of his home planet, prot can describe its orbit around double suns in unpublished detail. Who is prot and where did he really come from? Why does he have the ability to cure severe mental cases? And to disappear at will? And to charm everyone he comes into contact with?

Bizarre delusion or reality? Listen in as a psychiatrist who specializes in delusional behavior documents his sessions with the man from K-PAX.

"I watched the movie first and have watched in many times since .. We had 3 weeks in the Maldives where I read 1 book each week .. The books were well written and because the acting in the movie was so good , when you read you heard their voices .. I said from the start of the movie prot was from space .. With the flash of a light and a mirror ! He was gone .. I loved the books and the ending in the book is what i wanted from the movie .. Watch the movie first .. then read the books it is like watching the conclusion of the movie in your head .. "

" Brewer has created an unfortgetable character in prot, and a novel that while Science Fiction, excels beyond the genre (not that there's a thing wrong with the genre). prot's tale is tragic, and though he be from K-Pax, so very human. "

" 9/10. What a great book! Very, very funny. If you've only seen the film they made based on this book then you've missed out. Nearly all the humour is lost in the film. Very highly recommended book. "

" One time I have to say that the screen play was just better, and if you liked the film, or the book, then do not read the second in the series... it works hard to strip all the magic from the story. "

" One of the few books I've read after seeing the film, and for once I wasn't disappointed. It is a beautiful reflective tale of the nature of difference, the persistence of some beliefs in the face of opposition, and above all for me, compassion. "

" There have been far far better treatments of the 'Is he an alien or not?' concept, and in this the suspense is... non-existent. How it got picked up for a movie is a more intriguing mystery. Derivative pap. "

" Story has a great purpose and meaning behind it, but the execution was sort of so-so. Also, I became quite tired of the plodding portions where hypnotism was involved. Took me down into the quagmire of patient diagnosis when what I really desired was to go to KPax with Prot. A mediocre read... "
