Publisher Description

Now as famous on radio and audio as they are in print, the adventures of that irrepressible and ageless schoolboy William Brown have been delighting both young and old for decades. Perpetually scruffy, mud-stained, and mischievous, he is a lovable scamp whose pranks usually end in disaster, for his harassed elders at least. With friends Ginger, Douglas, and Henry (The Outlaws), and the angelic, lisping, thorn-in-his-side Violet Elizabeth Bott, William has rightly joined the literary, and radio, immortals.

This volume of Just William features the following stories:

  • That Boy
  • The Bishop's Handkerchief
  • William and Uncle George
  • The Haunted House
  • William and St. Valentine
  • April Fool's Day
  • Not Much
  • The Cure
  • William's Wonderful Plan
  • The Outlaws and the Penknife
  • William the Reformer
  • William's New Year's Day

  • "Don't be fooled into thinking the William series are just for children. If you were a boy (or tom boy) always on adventures whilst feeling your family & people in general were preventing said such adventures then these stories will take you straight back to your youth. Todays playstation generation could learn a lot from William brown & he'd enjoy teaching them so long as he was in charge & until he moved on to his next project."

" If my two boys had to go and play in shirt, tie and hat all day they'd be accused of being 'naughty' every time they trashed their clothes too. Such a different time, but this precocious child gives a little insight into the lack of thought and consequences that is a boys mind - and how much they need to just get out and PLAY. Perhaps not that much has changed .... Not giving it to my boys to read tho!!! "

" Some of my favourite books. I wanted to ne William when I was a boy and they still take me back to childhood. Crompton was a writer of genius, though I still prefer the first dozen or so books as the later ones are not of the same quality. "

" I love William--he's such a grubby, earnest, scowling, rebellious child, with such a heavy hand on the sarcasm. These books are a hugely entertaining window into middle-class English family life in the twenties. "
