Blue Collar Comedy star Bill Engvall is just a guy. He's been one his whole life. He can't help it; he was born that way. And that makes him an expert on the subject. For the record, here's the official definition of a guy: a person who doesn't think before he speaks. He can't. He's not that deep. Because a guy has only three basic needs: eating, sleeping, and sex. That's it. Just a Guy chronicles a lifetime in pursuit of those needs.

In this memoir, Bill Engvall takes you on the rollicking ride of his life, including his childhood in Texas and adolescence in Arizona (where he became a fixture in local emergency rooms, the result of massive amounts of non-thinking behavior while trying to impress girls or torture his sisters); following his dream as a stand-up comic and, gulp, singer; and his brief stint in children's theater while sharing the stage and the back of a van with the director's dog. You'll also hear about his bumbling and riotous courtship of, and then marriage to, Gail, the love of his life. And finally, Bill talks about fatherhood and remaining, to this day, a well-meaning but flawed parent.

Through it all, Bill gamely stumbles along, struggling to maintain a facade of confidence and control. Far from a superhero, Bill Engvall is an everyday Everyman, the poster boy for normal. The result is disarming, perceptive, wildly funny, and unexpectedly moving. Just a Guy will make you laugh out loud and tug at your heart.

" I've always admired Bill as a comedian and after reading this book the admiration has grown. I am very interested in the events that steer people in a certain direction and shape their adult lives. "

" I guess I was expecting more jokes in the biography of a comedian. But still more entertaining than most autobiographies. "

" Not as funny as one would hope for/expect from Bill, but somewhat interesting nonetheless. "

" I loved this book! I listened to the audio book which is narrated by Bill himself...which made it even more enjoyable for me. You can't listen to Bill for long without laughing about something. The stories from his childhood and how he met his wife were heartfelt and of course, filled with laughter. I was nearly in tears laughing so hard when he was telling about his fantasy baseball experience near the end of the book. I could have easily listened to more stories from Bill. If you are looking to learn a little more about Bill or just need a reason to smile, this is a great book choice! "

" I'm trying to think of a comic that I like better than Bill Engvall and I can't think of one. He's funny without cussing or being dirty like so many others. I picked this book up at the dollar store and loved it. I read almost the entire book in one sitting. It made me laugh out loud many times and made me tear up a couple of times too. But what it did more than those two things was make me like Bill Engvall even more than I already did. He's a guy...a great, funny, family guy. I recommend this book to all of his fans. "

" Bill Engvall is by far my favorite of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour guys. His book is a lot like his comedy routines on HBO--funny, mostly clean and something you can picture in your head. It was kinda neat getting a look at his life and how it shaped him into who he is today. "

" I think Bill is an amazing comic and the stories in his book were touching. I think I went into this book thinking it would be like his standup. It is more heart to heart than that. "

" I enjoyed hearing this book read by him. It sounded like an old friend telling you about his life. My only complaint is the abrupt ending. I would've liked to hear more about his life after he came into show biz. Hopefully that book will be coming later. "

" I was expecting an extension of his blue collar comedy. It's not. To be fair I only listened to 1 disc. The title says it all, just a guy. Not much substance. The most disappointing aspect was the narration. It is read by the author and it was painful. "
