Publisher Description

David Sloane is the best wrongful death attorney in San Francisco. He's a lawyer who can make juries do anything. But despite his professional success, he's plagued by a nightmare of a childhood he cannot consciously remember. When he receives a package from a White House confidant who then turns up dead by apparent suicide, the contents reveal a history he never could have imagined. Now, in search of justice, Sloane must depend on two men he's never met: Charles Jenkins, a former CIA agent turned recluse who suffers the same nightmare; and Tom Molia, a police detective willing to take on just about anyone, including the U.S. Department of Justice. Together, these men must expose a 30-year conspiracy so insidious that it may reach as far as the Oval Office and topple a presidency, if they can stay alive.

"You can tell this is a first novel. It has some plot holes that keep it from being great but it's still a good book. I'm not going to write a plot summary since so many have already did that. I agree with others that the title is a little misleading. I picked it up thinking it was a legal drama but then it turned into a political thriller which is fine with me since I love those books. I think Mr. Dugoni will keep getting better and better. I enjoyed his use of flashbacks to help reveal the story. He did a great job of fleshing out his characters and making you feel for them. There were a couple twists that didn't really work but still you knew what he was going for. I'm looking forward to seeing how he grows as an author with his next book. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good political thriller."

" This book was not the greatest of books I've ever read. However, I do have to mention that its not my usual style of reading- not the type of book I would normally read. I picked this copy up in the breakroom at work, where there is a bookshelf that my coworkers place books they are done with and have a little "book exchange" if you will. Most of the books are romance novels and mysteries. Two types of books that I almost never read. But, I was in between classics, and bored during lunch. So, I picked this up. When compared to the books I normally read (classics such as Dickens, Bronte, and Austen) this book was really poorly written. However, as far as mysteries go I guess it wasn't that bad- I mean, I did finish it, didn't I? But, seriously, wouldn't recommend it to anyone.. "

" The cover invites John Grisham to "move over". This one is certainly in the genre of Grisham with multiple plots. Anothe gift from Annie. I could hardly put it down, but it is a long one. "

" When I started it, I really didn't like it, but the characters grabbed me, and I was curious as to how the seemingly unconnected pieces and people would come together. In the end, it was a great read. "

" Not the usual genre I read. It was a little awkward at first to wrap my brain around what was going on, but once the story got going and my brain got going, I really enjoyed it. The twists weren't huge surprises to me, but I thought the writing was well done. It wasn't so much "What's going to happen" but "How." "
