Publisher Description

An original novel from Steven Gould, creator of the Jumper series, that tells the back story of Griffin O'Connor, a character created for the film of Jumper.

What if you could jump? Go anywhere in the world in the blink of an eye? What would you do? Where would you go? What if you were only five years old?

Griffin has a secret. It's a secret that he's sworn to his parents to keep, and never tell. Griffin is a Jumper: a person who can teleport to any place he has ever been. The first time was when he was five, and his parents crossed an ocean to protect the secret. The most important time was when he was nine. That was the day that the men came to his house and murdered his parents. Griffin knows that the men were looking for him, and he must never let them find him.

Griffin grows up with only two goals: to survive, and to kill the people who want him dead. And a Jumper bent on revenge is not going to let anything stand in his way.

Jumper is a major motion picture from 20th Century Fox/New Regency Productions, starring Hayden Christensen, Samuel L. Jackson, Diane Lane, and Jamie Bell.

"Fantastic story and well told using imagery and LOTS of character emotion. It's awesome to follow Griffin from early childhood as he finds out he can "Jump" through an early life of revenge... a Drama with Sci/Fi over tones, but very rooted in the "real" world"

Quotes

  • “The theme of Steven Gould's Jumper is, quite literally, escape. The first half of Jumper has a charm and bounce that carry the reader past the implausibilities inherent in the premise--imagine a Holden Caulfield with the power of life or death over the jerks and phonies.

    — The New York Times Book Review
  • Gould proves once again that in the hands of a wonderful, perceptive writer, there is no such thing as an old idea. What sets Jumper apart from other novels that dip back into the well of the masters is that Gould brings his own keen empathy and rigorous intelligence to the story.....This is a book that you won't want to miss. It reminded me of why I first came to love science fiction, and yet I didn't have to be twelve again to have a great time reading it.

    — Orson Scott Card

" I really enjoyed Steven Gould's first two Jumper books, Jumper and Reflex, but this one was a let down. It seemed that just when the story really got going it just stopped. It wouldn't suprise me if Steven ran out of time to meet the publishers deadline and just sent off what he had completed. Too many issues were not developed well or even addressed, hopefully there will be another book that will tie everything up. Until then, I would just skip this book unless you have a lot of time on your hands and don't mind a story that goes nowhere. "

" Wasn't as good as the first two books, I don't think. Although the beginnings and middle parts were riveting and edge-of-your-seat exciting, the ending was a letdown. (And truth be told, I had no idea what happened. "

" I accidently read this book and then found out that this is the third book. Good thing it is independent of the other two. I thought the book was good, really disapointed by the movie. If you have seen the movie stay away, if you haven't its a must read. "

" Not as good as the original two books, Jumper and Reflex, but it was nice to go into seeing the movie with this background on Griffin's character. Still, though, if you're going to get into this series, I would read the first two (originals). They're much better than the movie. "

" Not great literature, but still a decent and entertaining read. The author's sci-fi "rules" are a bit different than the other books in the "Jumper" series (in order to match the movie), but it wasn't too jarring. It does help to watch the movie first. "

" I don't think Gould was fully able to reconcile the incredibly dark places that the logic of this plot dictated his hero go with his creation of him as a plucky positive Young Adult Hero. So, for me, okay but not great. "
