"it is really a smart book...i was recommended to read it by my friend...and as she told me, it is awesome...the adventurous mind of maia is amiable...and the scene when her plan was working perfectly about hiding the boy was my favorite part...the friendship between the two kids are lovely too.. " This was a really charming book! For younger readers, but that didn't turn me off at all, which is the sign of a really great book. Lovely characters, good plot (though a bit predictable for an experienced reader)and a nice introduction to Brazil. "

" I would rather give it a 3.5, but I liked it enough to bump it up to 4. I would have *loved* this book as an elementary school student. The only thing that bothered me now was the idea of the "noble savage". That said, it was a good story and interesting writing. "
