"I find it hard to criticize such a classic. I would never do so based on the writing. The language, the dialogue, the descriptions, everything is beautiful. However, I house an intense dislike of the main character, and of the "hero" figure, which makes it hard for me to rate this book as highly as the author deserves. Please, don't let this review dissuade you-- read it. As far as my two cents go- I could not tolerate the characters, and I hated the decision Jane ended up making. But don't take it at my word, find out for yourself."

" Not a "read-in-a-day" book and not something written for casual skimmers. Keep reading through the dry parts and you will feel like you are with the characters as much as they are with you. The ending was so amazing it brought me to tears. Must read on a road trip. "

" Took quite some time, but I'm done! And I am so impressed. It's strongest appeal, for me, was that it was believable and passionate. The literary genius of Charlotte Bronte had me both longing for more and being satisfied at the same time. The hardships Jane faces develop her from a child into a woman who learns many lessons, which, as the reader, I felt that I absorbed. Additionally, it had one of the best endings I've read to date and, despite its tiresome length, not a moment was wasted on this book. "

" Jane Eyre is a Feminist, Revolutionary novel. The heroine goes through enormous trials to even survive. It is a tale of success against all odds and yet she prospers and is able to retain her values and strength that supports the other characters. It is inspired! Written at a time when women could all be placed in a similar circumstance at any time. Women had no rights were the property of their fathers or husbands. Enormously important novel! I am sure it gave hope and continues to give hope to women to this day! "

" I only made it halfway through - I couldn't finish this one. I am obviously not one who is satisfied with lots of words and descriptions while I wait and wait and wait for a story to emerge. "

" A very cloistered, claustrophobic text. There's no room for distraction nor dissension. Bronte employs the theatre of the 18th century, but with the hyper consciousness of the 19th century. "

" Read Jane Eyre at age 30 after reworking a list of "Classics." I expected a formula of the Jane Austen variety but instead walked into the dark world of a Bronte. A graceful book. "
