Publisher Description

Jane Eyre is a plain but intelligent orphan. The novel, which is partly autobiographical, explores her childhood, her education, her employment as a governess, and her love for her employer, Edward Rochester. Jane's love for Mr. Rochester is sorely tested when the mystery of the occupant of the attic is uncovered. Listeners will find this a novel full of social criticism and gothic elements.

Also included are two special features: an excerpt from The Life of Charlotte Bronte by Elizabeth Gaskell and A Brief Visit to the Bronte Parsonage by our narrator, Flo Gibson.

"My all time favourite book. Some may find it boring, some may classify it as an unrealistic story of romance, but to me it's a classic tale of an all enduring love with strong and fascinating characters and some mystery thrown in the mix. And I also enjoy old English that is extinct in contemporary literature."

" Gothic Romance before the genre existed. It helped start a whole genre and yet is still relevant today. Also a Dickensian beginning, before _Oliver Twist_... Definitely a Must-Read. "

" I loved the character of Jane Eyre. I was intrigued from the start how the author told the story of Jane mistreated so miserably as a child. I got a little lost with the love story of Mr. Rochester, but I was quite surprised at the ending. Jane was a true heroine. A woman of character and substance! "

" I almost got to 30 before I read this, and would those three decades have been meaningless if I never got around to it? No. But it was a good book, with characters that were infinitely more interesting than those in Wuthering Heights. (I know, different Bronte sister.) "

" Finally read this after years of meaning to-- and was not disappointed. Great love story, redemption of Rochester, etc., but also wonderful tale of an independent woman ahead of her time. The latest movie incarnation with Michael Fassbender and Mia Wasikowa was fantastic. "
