"This was probably the first "classic" book I ever read (6 or 7 years ago, I think?), and the first time I tried to read it, it was a struggle. I wasn't quite used to taking my time and digesting books so it took a while to train my self out of the fast-paced skimming that was appropriate for my worn-down children's paperbacks. However, I was determined to finish it and understand the story, so after a couple failed attempts I picked it up, went sentence by sentence, and half-way through I found myself enjoying it quite a lot. Since that day, I've picked it up a couple times but grew to favor non-fiction and other less romantic texts. Regardless of which part of the bookstore I branch out too, this story is pretty dear to me just because it's always been on my bookshelf. The love between Jane and Mr. Rochester struck me as perfectly imperfect--two people with heady pasts brought together by dysfunction. I loved how Jane's narration was extremely perceptive, almost like I was in her mind. All in all, I enjoy taking this one off the shelf on days when I need something old and lengthy to occupy my mind." — Ellen (4 out of 5 stars)
