This warm and joyful volume of stories collects some of the Yorkshire vet's favorite tales about one of his favorite animals - each memoir as memorable and heartwarming as the last.

Kittens and cats of all kinds populate this program and, like their flesh-and-blood counterparts, they will purr their way into the hearts and minds of everyone who hears their stories. You'll meet cats of farmers, merchants, and matrons; cats with definite social graces and wild, untamed natures; and some cats who became a cherished part of the Herriot family. You'll also meet some of the wonderful people of Yorkshire, men and women whose lives were changed forever by the love and affection of these fascinating, independent, caring creatures.

"My wife loves cats and she had this book in the car as we were driving back to our home in Eagle Mountain after a visit to the warmer climate of St. George. She sometimes reads to me as we ride along and she picked James Herriot's Cat Stories on this trip. I'm a cat tolerater, but hearing the delightful stories in this book almost converted me to cat lover. Herriot has a charming way of relating his stories and his love for animals shines through, whether he's writing about cats, as in this book, or any of the many other kinds of animals he deals with in his other books. And his stories always seem to have a happy ending. I know that isn't necessarily popular these days, but I like it."

" I probably should not have read this while sitting in the middle seat of an airplane. I have a real soft spot for cats, and I'm sure the folks sitting next to me thought I was quite the ninny for crying the way I did. Not that these stories are sad - far from it. They're funny, charming, and very touching. Though my parents owned copies of Herriot's original veterinary memoirs (All Creatures Great and Small, et al), this is the first book I've read by him. But they were so well-written that I think I'll have to go find copies of his other works. Definitely recommended for cat-lovers. "

About James Herriot

James Herriot (1916-1995) was the bestselling author of memoirs, including All Creatures Great and Small, All Things Bright and Beautiful, All Things Wise and Wonderful, The Lord God Made Them All, and Every Living Thing. At age twenty-three, he qualified for veterinary practice with the Glasgow Veterinary College and moved to the town of Thirsk in Yorkshire to work in a rural practice. He would live in, work in, and write about the region for the rest of his life. Though he dreamed for years of writing a book, his veterinary work and his family kept him busy, and he did not start writing until the age of fifty. In 1979, he was awarded the title Order of the British Empire (OBE). His veterinary practice in Yorkshire, England, is now tended by his son, Jim Wight.
