Harry Barnett, a middle-aged failure, leads a shabby existence. He is reduced to caretaking a friend's villa on the island of Rhodes and working in a bar to earn his keep. Then a guest at the villa - a young woman he had instantly warmed to - disappears on a mountain peak. Under suspicion of her murder, Harry becomes obsessed by the mystery that has changed his life and begins to trace back the movements and encounters that led to the moment where she vanished into the blue.

" i would have given this three and a half stars if that were possible except for the unexpected sex scene that was explicit. It also tarnished my view of the main character, which I know was the point, but still. "

" Another entertaining, absorbing mystery by Robert Goddard. I foresaw(most of) the ending for quite some time, but still..... "

" A page turner, a present mystery that is solved through past murders. Present-day Rhodes and England and Oxford of 10+ years ago. Great settings, fascinating characters, and the best of storytelling. He's been compared to Dickens and DuMaurier. I would add Greene. I have to read everything else he's published. "
