"A page turner, a present mystery that is solved through past murders. Present-day Rhodes and England and Oxford of 10+ years ago. Great settings, fascinating characters, and the best of storytelling. He's been compared to Dickens and DuMaurier. I would add Greene. I have to read everything else he's published." — Wyma (4 out of 5 stars)

" i would have given this three and a half stars if that were possible except for the unexpected sex scene that was explicit. It also tarnished my view of the main character, which I know was the point, but still. "
" Search for a missing woman who knows too much. "
" Another entertaining, absorbing mystery by Robert Goddard. I foresaw(most of) the ending for quite some time, but still..... "
" a compelling story with real life characters, and suspense which ends only at the last pages of the book. "
" The BEST BOOK I've read in years!!!! So beautifully written and such great characters and arcs! "
" This book was interesting enough to keep me reading it, but I didn't much care about the characters. It was kind of hard to believe that the main character would go thru all the trouble to find the missing girl that he had so little attachment to. "
" Definitely picked up after the 150 page mark...I have a feeling that this book was quite good for the type of book it is - not my usual fair, so I feel somewhat unqualified to assess it. Written well with a good ending. "
" A bit of a slow starter -- indeed rather slow throughout. Not boring but detailed. A far better than average mystery with a flawed but likeable protagonist. "
" Long story, you had to pay attention, but great ending! "
" My first Robert Goddard - now I must read them all! "
" Robert Goddard writes the most complex plots around. These books keep you thinking until the very end with all the twists and turns. Some nice prose too... I recommend him highly. "
" RG is a master plotter in my opinion. "
" I liked this book a lot - it had a lot of twists and turns and a unique British style. It reminded me of books by Elizabeth George. "
" This was a well written, swift moving mystery with a satisfying ending. A good ending is hard to find. "
" Read this book for my mystery book club and I was one of the few that enjoyed the book. It was well written and I liked his use of language. "
" I did not anticipate the outcome of this story. Goddard did a good job of keeping me guessing the whole time. "
" Stopped trying to read this book on page 58. Couldn't get into it. "
" Couldn't put this book down once I got into it! "
