Beyond the confines of our small world, far from the glow of our star, lie a galaxy and universe much larger and more varied than anyone on Earth can possibly imagine. For the new NAC spacecraft Odyssey and her crew, the unimaginable facets of this untouched world are about to become reality. The Odyssey's maiden voyage is an epic adventure destined to make history. Captain Eric Weston and his crew encounter horrors, wonders, monsters, and people, all of which will test their resolve, challenge their abilities, and put in sharp relief what is necessary to be a hero. A first-rate military science fiction epic that combines old-school space opera and modern storytelling, Into the Black: Odyssey One is a riveting, exhilarating adventure with vivid details, rich mythology, and relentless pacing. " This book starts out a little rough. Despite the fact that I apparently read the re-edited/remastered version the first few chapters contained some conspicuous editing and continuity errors. I didn't give up on it though, and I am glad that I did not, because most of these errors disappeared as the book progressed and the story built momentum. It just got better the further that I read, until at the end it was pulse-pounding, page turning military science fiction as good as any that I have read. If you like John Ringo, Elizabeth Moon or David Weber buy this book, read it and stick with it past the initial glitches. I guarantee that you wont be sorry that you did. "

" I don't read a lot of straight up space fairing Sci-Fi. This book has changed that at least a little. Being an ex-Navy man, reading this book felt 'real'. I don't know if Even has any nautical experience, but he was able to make the descriptions of ship-board life feel right and reminded me of many a General Quarters drill. The action and suspense was balanced well, and I really can't wait to find out more of the history of this universe and who the different groups of Humans were separated. What is the Path that Earth dwellers seem to have forgotten and what are the Drasin really up to? "

" Very good, engaging and entertaining, space opera at its best "

" If you are a fan of science fiction, as I am, this is a not bad. It does read so far like a little bit formulaic. "
