Publisher Description

I held my line. I knew from the war, if not from shooting rabbits, that we were safe enough for the first moments. It is too impossible to hit a target like us from a helicopter that's rocking and rolling and trying to find its target. But maybe this guy had new equipment or maybe he was a brilliant shot or maybe he was just plain lucky. Bullet holes tore through the ute like a huge metal punch was suddenly and roughly slamming a simultaneous line of them from our rear to our front.

Ellie has struggled to put the war behind her and lead a normal life. Although what's normal about your parents having been murdered; trying to run a farm and go to school; and bringing up a young boy who's hiding terrible secrets about his past?

"WoW... As a series goes or a trilogy of the main character of a series.. these books just keep getting better and better. I have to say I am happy with this book because it slows down a bit of the intensity and non stop action. It gets you more in the lives of Ellie and Gavin and really lets you get to know them as people. Then the intensity picks up and it's non stop all over again. As with all of the other books I've read regarding the 'When the war began' series and the 'Ellie Chronicles' trilogy, very well written. While reading you can actually picture yourself there in the thick of things with the characters. Loved it!"

" This second book is good because we see a different side to Ellie. She has to deal with a number of different issues regarding the farm, her parents death and looking after Gavin. "

" Solid 4 stars. Didn't love the knife scene at the end; it came out of nowhere, and not in a believable way. But the rest of the book was good enough that it's still an amazing read. I think I just love this author. I'm going to try some more of his books when I finish Ellie. "

" I don't think The Ellie Chronicles has quite the oomph that the original series does, but I still thoroughly enjoyed reading these books. I love seeing the subtle-yet-all-too-real struggles that have replaced all-out battles now that the war is officially over. Some people have complained that they got sick of all the talk about cows and everything. Honestly, it never got boring to me. I love Ellie, and I'm invested in her. I love reading about her life, and that was just another part of it. "

" I've been listening to this series from Tomorrow When the War Began to the Ellie Chronicles and with this book the reader changed and as you may know, the reader can make all the difference. This gal just isn't Ellie and it distracts from the story of her struggles after the war. "

" I just finished reading this book; it took me a year to read becusse I just wasn't into it. But I finally got round to reading it properly and I enjoyed reading it, but it lacks the 'power' of the tomorrow series, and does seem to be farming-based which gets boring fast. "
