Publisher Description

Hunted Down is a detective story by Charles Dickens. The astute Sampson suspects that a certain Mr. Julius Slinkton who turns up in his office one morning is not all that he seems.

As Slinkton crops up more and more frequently in Sampson’s life, he realises that a monstrous crime is about to be committed. But a counter plot is hatched and the hunter quickly becomes the hunted. Dickens excels again in his masterful portrayal of character and insightful description of society of his day. The story functions both as a fast paced narrative which draws the reader swiftly into the story and as a psychological analysis of the most villainous conman imaginable.

" I didn't get it. Very odd and what was the Julius Ceaser about? Also this is only one short story, not a collection. "

" The short stories originally published in Household Words were, for the most part, interesting. But the extracts from novels such as Bleak House and Martin Chuzzlewit were not comprehensive enough for my liking. "

" There were hints of the Dickens I know in this book, but on the whole, he was rather more sober than usual. "

" Very short rather disappointing story by Dickens and not in his usual style at all. This type of detective story doesn't suit him at all and I'm not surprised that this is a little known work by him. "

" Very short Dickens book - but read in such a monotonous way that I struggled to listen to it at all. "

" I wanted a "short" read and also wanted to read something from a classic. Loved this little book. Short and to the point. Justice is good. "

" A little confusing but interesting. I liked the obsession with the physical traits that, because of their excessively normal appearance, gave away the abnormal character underneath. "
