"I'm really giving the five stars to Dr. Amen himself, because this book covers a lot of the same stuff as his other books. However, it's a terrific wake-up call to what most of us are doing to our brains, namely NOT helping them stay as young as they could. His recommendations are pretty simple. Get daily exercise. Don't do alcohol, drugs or tobacco. Lose the extra pounds. Get off sugar, white flour and salt. Take multi-vitamins and vitamin D. Keep learning, no matter what your age. But which of us is doing ALL these things? He sure gave me a good kick in the butt to go for an even healthier lifestyle. (ANYTHING to avoid Alzheimer's!)" — Alesa (5 out of 5 stars)

" Went with three stars because I don't think I'll read it again, however the book did have a lot of interesting information and I feel more motivated to start exercising again and to start eating better. "
" Lots of good info. It's inspired me to try to take better care of my brain. "
" Most of the information in this book is similar to all of his other books. Basically, exercise, eat right, reduce stress. He does have interesting information on how the different parts of the brain work. "
" Interesting but familiar material. The typical no whites (sugar, flour & salt). Eat natural, exercise, get enough sleep and be positive. "
" Keep working out and using your brain! "
" Not exactly new insights but nonetheless useful. I remain ambivalent over his take focusing only on the negative aspects of caffeine / coffee consumption given other studies on its other more positive elements, but otherwise the book was a good reference point "
" There are portions of this book that are only worth skimming because of the reiterative quality of the text, but other portions are filled with great health advice and the research to back it up. Informative. "
" good info, but mostly common sense. extremely repetitive..... "
" This book is for anyone interested in getting healthy, losing weight, looking better, wants more energy or with health problems. "
" This book synthesized many ideas I have been investigating recently on ways to improve brain functioning. Loved it so much that I joined his web site to get more info, do lots of exercises, and have fun while improving my health. "
" Thank you for this wise book that is filled with valuable information and things we can all do easily to protect our brain .... except, for a part-time Parisian, give up wine and champagne? I love my brain and want to protect it but sorry, can't do that one :-) "
" This book has sound information, though I didn't really learn anything new. His special angle is using brain scans in order to prove that one should eat better, exercise more, and think good happy thoughts. I get... got it before I read the book.... but if you didn't, it is a pretty good book. "
" This was an interesting book. Many of the people interviewed lost a lot of weight and became healthier. I hope to try and eat more fruits and vegetables. It really makes a difference in brain function. "
" good advice, but predictable. 8 hours of sleep, regular exercise, no junk food, healthy supplements, brain stimuation, also a brain scan (which he provides). Interested because of his pbs programs. "
" Repetitive, yet very good info. "
" Good information and inspiration to adjust one's lifestyle in favor of optimal brain health. This book made me start considering what effect my actions would have on my brain's long term health (as well as short term). The only reason for 3-stars is that it repeats itself so much. "
" Some good basic info but nothing new "
" Excellent advice---everyone should read this book! Listening to this on audio. "
" Eye opening and life altering. The before and after brain spects were amazing and scary. If this book does not stop my diet coke and sugar habit I don't know what will!!! "
" Nothing super earth shattering about this book. More common sense than anything, but a good reminder about the important things you need to do to keep your mind healthy for the long haul "
" I like a lot of the information and will be trying a few of the tips. He's very knowledgeable about the subject. "
" This book was very similar to Daniel Amen's other Brain books. It is a good read and a good reminder of what we need to do to keep our brains healthy. "
" An eye opener for me, very informative and a big help. Looking forward to other books from Dr. Amen. "
