Having sold their large city house, Gordon and Jan set up home in a wild, lonely Cornish valley with dreams of creating a special type of holiday retreat. With no house yet built, and still living in their caravan, the family now find themselves on the point of failure.

Life beside the small stream is primitive and danger lies ahead, but there is always laughter, a little mischief and a sprinkling of romance. There are problems to surmount, and improvisation is often called for, but they are determined to succeed. Unafraid of risk, the family continues on their adventure with no certainty of success - but every certainty of excitement.

Listener Opinions

" This was enjoyable tosh. Though Dan Brown is not the greatest writer in the world, and some situations and ideas don't really hold up to scrutiny, he can tell a story better than most. This is not a book to provide great insights into the human condition, but it is fast and fun. "

" Awful load of crap! I had a dentist take care of three cavities the week I read this and felt the dentist was far nicer than Dan Brown was with me. As a devout Catholic all I read was lies upon lies of his tripe. F. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Emily | 1/22/2014

" I wouldn't necessarily read it again, but I thoroughly enjoyed it while I was reading, to the tune of well-past-my-bedtime . . . not a good idea on a school night, kids! "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Laura Wilkinson | 1/19/2014

" Dan Brown always spins brilliant plots that captivate the reader and teach him or her a thing or two about history. I love how he incorporates fact with fiction. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Oana | 12/1/2012

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Grace | 7/12/2012

" This book was amazing. The book is filled with historical symbolism and mystery which jut strengthens the while story. Sometimes you forget it is fiction. There isn't a dull moment or part that was dragged on. The author is brilliant at keeping a mystery novel suspenseful. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Sehri | 12/21/2011

" This is a fun mystery book, it is fiction and based on someones imagination, and nothing more. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Illy | 9/3/2011

" As my third Dan Brown (stupidly I read them out of sequence) I enjoyed this, but not as much as Angels and Demons - I'm starting to find some of it a bit formulaic. I liked the twist at the end and I really still like Robert Langdon as a character. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Tamer | 8/27/2011

" the book is much better than the movie "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Jessica | 1/22/2011

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Christian | 2/23/2010

" Interesting. The 'twist' didnt ring true enough to me. I just couldn't buy into all of the story's craziness happening because of that 'secret'. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Sue | 6/19/2009

" The book kept me spellbound. As I told a group who attended my presentation on it's lack of accurate Biblical and Christian history, it's one of the best suspense novels I've ever read. Emphasis on "novel." "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Lucie Miller | 11/30/2008

" Story wasn't too bad an idea but the writing is terrible. The characters unrealistic and one dimensional and I actually laughed out loud at a few parts- they weren't meant to be funny. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Kathakali | 11/29/2008

" The story-line is great but the language is too simple, not exactly something you can read to improve your language. "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Kathy Squires | 3/10/2008

" Hated it. Too many coincidences--I know, that's what a lot of people liked. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Angel Annabeth | 2/8/2008

" My dad recommend this book to me. I kind of get it, but its not really the type of book I read. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Birgit | 10/23/2007

" FABULOUS! FABULOUS! FABULOUS! What an interesting riveting read. I must confess that the only reason I even picked this up was because the pastor at the church we attended for a little over a year said it was a load of rubbish and not to read it. Naturally I was curious and I read it, great "story". "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Tony McMahon | 6/6/2007

" Please tell me you find this book unintentionally hilarious. If you don't - I fear we have nothing in common. I found myself reading out chunks to my partner in bed while both of us convulsed with laughter. Dreadful, trashy, silly - but hell, I did buy it. So Dan Brown wins! "
