Publisher Description

As her cousin Duke - the bully of Blue Wing, Minnesota - dangles her precariously from a steel bridge 20 feet above the flood-swollen Mississippi, Claire doesn't expect to softly land on a passing boat or to see Duke floundering in the river. And yet as these unlikely events - and more - suddenly begin to happen, some in the sleepy river town don't seem at all surprised.

But when a rhino's horn suddenly sprouts from Duke's face and his parents turn to stone, 12-year-old Claire decides to take action. Tracking down trolls and convincing them to reverse a curse, however, may not be as easy as she thinks.

"This was a enjoyable kids book. It's a tale about a town that has a bit of magic here and there complete with trolls and fairies. It's about being a bully and what can become of it if you are. And mostly it's about a little girl named Claire who gets mixed up in all sorts of things. Her cousin is growing a horn, some of her family has turned to stone and she's got a trio of trolls demanding her help. With all this going on, it's a fun and wild ride."

" WANT TO COUNT AS TWO BOOKS. This book is about a girl named Claire, who always gets bullied by her cousin Duke. One day when he threatens to drop her in a river things go badly and hes grows a horn where his nose was!So Claire and Duke set off with three trolls to fix what has been done. I did not like this book at all, Duke treats his cousin awfully even after all she's done!! I do not recommend this to anybody, they would do better reading a picture book!!!!! "

" Very cool cover-- book wasn't that engaging. I found it a bit hard to follow-- maybe because I didn't think either the characters or the plot were that well developed. "

" An excellent Mississippi River fairy tale, packed with trolls, talking crickets and blue wing fairies. I was a little confused when it came to troll curses. Who curse who first and why and what happened to them, but it all works out eventually and the bullies learn their lesson. "

" In which we learn that shooting stars smell "a little like a grilled cheese sandwich that's been burned . . . only sweeter." Quirky "rivery" fun with river trolls, rock trolls, rhinos, a blue-wing fairy, and some very funny lying crickets. I really wanted to like this book, but for some reason it just never caught me up and pulled me in. It had some fun moments, but overall it was just okay. Although the lying crickets did make me laugh several times! "

" A really rather unusual children's (?) book - not at all preteen trendy (no vampires), but highly imaginative and felt really 'local' if that makes sense for a book that is set mostly in a magical realm. Lots of fun detail - loved the river trolls wearing bicyle gear... "
