"I liked it, sweet romance, some funny parts, really good suspense. Nick and Carter are a perfect match and I thought it was good for him to have a woman stand up to him and give him a run for his money when he needed it. Lyst was crazy, a real loon, Cort and Ellie were sweet kids and Buddy, Ivan and Gerite were funny. It was a good story, I liked it a lot."

" This novel was really romantic and exciting. It is one my favorite among the Jessica Bird novels. "

" This is the weakest of J.R. Ward/Jessica Bird's contemporaries that I have read, but it was still very enjoyable. "

" I love everything J.R. Ward aka Jessica Bird writes and this book was no different. It was a great story. "

" I thought it was great to see how J.R. Ward's writing started. Her first few books really show the potential she had. Nick and Carter were great characters and I loved the story they uncovered about the dead soldiers and the gold. I was entertained the entire book, although I would have loved to see a bit more with the kids together. Wonderful story. "

" I can't say that I was deeply intrigued with this book by any means. I found it to be too soft and fluffy of a romance for my taste. I like a bit more pace in the plot and more mystery with the romance. The story was an okay one if you are reading it only for the love story with the rest being just background to you as a reader, which like I just said, I like some mystery or a heavier underlying plot with my romance reads, so this was not a book for me. The writing was very well done and the characters were really well thought out and written. I enjoyed Carter, the woman archaeologist who is doing what she loves and loving what she does, but is also trying to hide from her past, a life she wishes not to ever remember or be part of again; and Nick, a rich and powerful man who is used to getting what he wants easily and never having to worry about commitment to any woman, because there are many more willing to date him when the current one gets too clingy; very much as characters and I had fun watching their love blossom and grow, no matter how much they knew they should not be together or wished they wouldn't be together. I also liked the archaeology in the book and how it was the reason Carter came to meet Nick in the first place. I enjoyed reading about the dig and what they hoped to find (long lost people and gold) and really found (well, you'll have to read it yourself to find this out). The book itself was not bad, it just wasn't for me. If you enjoy reading a romance this book would be for you and I would recommend it. I had good points and is well worth checking out, if for nothing else but the characters and how they interact throughout the book. 3/5 Stars "

" Very nice story. The plot and the characters kept me turning the pages. At times I thought that Carter was a little shrill, and I wouldn't have blamed Nick for taking off...but everything is happily resolved at the end (of course). Also learned a little about archeological sites are excavated. "

" You can tell this was in the beginning of Jessica's career. It was still a good read though. I like being able to see how she has progressed. I have always liked the way most of the Jessica Bird books were linked together in some way with different characters, etc. "

" I liked this one a lot, it has strong characters, loved the dialogues...quite good. Only one thing in there, plot related, tat I thought was stupid, but apart from that, a good story. "

" I enjoyed this book - not as much as Leaping Hearts but it was good fun. You can start to see elements of J R Ward's writing; the strong female character who knows her own mind and an equally strong male character. Good fun and a great story. "

" This book was wonderful like all books by this author. I have not read one I don't like yet! The store grabbed me in the beginning. I got a little grippy with the Carter's hardheadedness I didn't think she would ever get a heart for forgiveness. Amazing read. "

" This, as far as I can tell, was Ward's first book. Very nice story. It's out of print so I had to get it used via amazon. About an archeologist who attempts to get permission to excavate a site believed to hold a mystery to what happened to gold and some revolutionary figures who disappeared. "
