What secrets lie shrouded in darkness?

Okay, so jogging through Central Park after midnight wasn't a bright idea. But Margrit Knight never thought she'd encounter a dark new world filled with magical beings, not to mention a dying woman and a mysterious stranger with blood on his hands. Her logical lawyer instincts told her it couldn't all be real, but she could hardly deny what she'd seen...and touched.

The mystery man, Alban, was a gargoyle. One of the fabled Old Races who had hidden their existence for centuries. Now he was a murder suspect, and he needed Margrit's help to take the heat off him and find the real killer. And as the dead pile up, it's a race against the sunrise to clear Alban's name and keep them both alive. Download and start listening now!

" Enjoying this story. It has enough fantasy to take me away from reality and put me another persons world and life. Escapism! "

" This was an odd book for me. I came close to wanting to dislike the main character and her actions and also the actions of Alban, but I just couldn't quite there. They weren't bad characters and do have some good qualities, but they certainly acted stupid on a number of times. I liked the idea of five Old Races. It was nice to have gargoyles, selkies, and djinn instead of the usual vampires (although there were vampires too) and werewolves. There was a fascinating interplay between the head honchos and Margrit. I couldn't quite call the romance between Alban and Margrit a romance, especially with how the book ends. It was nice not to have the main character fall instantly in love with the dark, mysterious, oh so dangerous guy. "

" A woman detective with an off again, on again relationship with a policeman gets involved with an extraordinary group of people and proves herself a worthy adversary and friend. I am looking forward to tracking down the sequels........ "

" This was a reread as the other two books were in the library and I thought I had better revisit the world so I was familiar again with the characters. "

" I think 160 pages is enough to decide that this book is terrible. It is soooo slow and boring! "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Diane Daniels | 1/20/2014

" This was well written and original as I've never read a paranormal romance about gargoyles. It sounds stupid, but it became believable unlike some other books I've read lately. I loved the heroine, who was a strong black woman and a respected lawyer whose character was well developed. "

" I won't waste your time with a lengthy review. I loooooved it!! Forget trashy vamp romance. This author has supernatural nailed down. I can't wait to get my hands on the next one. "

" I put this book down several times. It is poorly written at the first and it really upset me. Though one night it was all I really had to read and I needed something, so I forced myself past those first couple of chapters and it got better. "

" Reading this book was complete luck...it was on an Audible first book sale (always a good sales tactic) and because of a reading challenge. Add a gargoyle into the mix...and we have success! I do believe I need the next book now. "

" I'm not quite sure what went wrong. It took 300 pages into the book for me to like the lead, even just a little. The romantic story was very forced and rushed. The sexual tension was immediate and improbable. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Erica | 6/25/2011

" I really got into this book at the begining I guess because the character lives in NYC near central park and she is black. for some reason toward the middle end of the book i feel like it starts to get a little slow... I really want to like this series. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Tessablue | 6/15/2011

" I really liked this novel. I liked the protagonist, Margrit (Grit), she's feisty and not at all what I expected. I particularly liked the gargoyle, Alban. "

" I tried reading this a year ago. I got to five chapters and just put the book down. It was boring with a capitol B. I mean really how long was the freakin gargoyal going to stare at her from a far... then he gets her and its just flat. "

" Kind of fun switch from all the vampire fiction out these days. This one's about a gargoyle instead. A little too much chick lit to really make me want to read the rest of the series, but a nice originality in the concept. "
