Publisher Description

What if you found yourself divorced and penniless? With no skills and a teenage daughter to support? What if the only way to survive was to do things you never thought possible, to go places you never knew existed.

These are questions Sally has never really thought about before. Married to a successful business man, she's always been a bit of a dreamer. Until now.

Her sister Zoe is her polar opposite. A detective inspector working out of Bath Central, she loves her job, and oozes self-confidence. No one would guess that she hides a crippling secret that dates back twenty years, and which, if exposed, may destroy her.

Then Sally's daughter gets into difficulties, and Sally finds she needs cash, lots of it, fast. With no one to help her, she is forced into a criminal world of extreme pornography and illegal drugs; a world in which teenage girls can go missing.

Two sisters intent on survival. Until one does something so terrifying that there's no way back.

"goed boek. Wat doe je als je geld nodig hebt en je het kan krijgen door iemand te vermoorden? Door de gevolgen van de moord, komen twee zussen ook weer dichter bij elkaar. Alleen het einde vond ik wat raar ... ik was me er niet zeker van of ik goed begrepen had, wie de moordenaar van het meisje was."

— Wiebke (4 out of 5 stars)

" I rather like Mo Hayder's books, though they occasionally wander too closely to gross out violence. Still, this book has a fantastic ending and that's hard to say about this genre. "

" Another of Mo Hayder's pitch-black mystery thriller novels. It's a bit more conventional than her others but it's also the one in which she exhibits the most grace to her main characters. The two main characters - a divorced housewife and her policewoman sister - were fantastically realised. "

" One could take plot-writing lessons from Ms Hayder. I realized only at the end, how many red herrings she generously bestowed to this unsuspecting amateur detective reader. Perhaps now I know her style, I shall not be so easily fooled again. "

" This started out and continued as a great story. However, the ending was just left in mid-air. We had no real resolution to the initial plot, almost as if a chapter had been ripped out. The book as a whole I enjoyed but the end was most disappointing. "

" Oh my! Mo Hayder writes some gripping crime fiction but this is really top notch. Gruesome in the extreme but un-put-downable. A young girl is killed in Bath and the tortous investigation leads to intrigue and plot and counter-plot. "
