When humanity expanded beyond the safety of Earth to new stars and horizons, they never dreamed what dangers they would encounter there. When the alien juggernaut known as the Covenant declared holy war upon the fragile human empire, millions of lives were lost - but millions of heroes also rose to the challenge.

In such a far-reaching conflict, not many of the stories of these heroes, both human and alien, have a chance to become legend. This collection holds 11 stories that dive into the depths of the vast Halo universe, not only from the perspective of those who fought and died to save humanity, but also those who vowed to wipe humanity out of existence.

Authors include Tobias Buckell,B. K. Evenson, Kevin Grace, Jonathan Goff, Robt McClees, Eric Nylund, Frank O'Connor,Eric Raab, Karen Traviss, Jeff VanderMeer, Tessa Kum, and Fred Van Lente.

" Cole story is the best, followed by Pariah. The rest are average to very good. The poetry kind of sucked, however. "

" It is really difficult to rate this book because some of the stories in it are amazing, but others seemed directionless and lost without purpose. A couple of the stories read like fan-fiction, such as "stomping on the heels of a fuss," while others seemed like priceless additions to the Halo universe. "

" A bunch of short stories of varying quality that are all mostly forgettable. The only one I remember (and kind of liked) was one post-Human/Covenant War story about a Covenant shipmaster who is travelling across a planet he had glassed years earlier. "

" Pretty good for short stories. Some were unnecessary while others fill in spots quite well in the Halo Universe. "

" Amazingly well written fast-paced short stories. Some good enough to make you want to cheer. Very enjoyable, the best of the series. Followed closely by The Fall of Reach. "

" I knew nothing about the Halo Universe when I got this out of the library and listened to it on CD. As a fan of science fiction, I was able to enjoy these stories without having any prior knowledge of Halo. A well done collection. "

" This was my first exposure to the Halo literacy world and I was not disappointed. Most of the stories were great (especially Mona Lisa) and I think the authors did a good job of giving just enough character development and backstory to make the stories easy to read and understandable. "

" Really, this book should be rated separately for each story. Most were good, but one or two just didn't grip me, and I didn't read them. I would still recommend to anyone who likes halo. "
