When Lissy James moves from California to Oklahoma, she finds herself in the middle of a teenage nightmare: a social scene to rival a Hollywood movie. And as if understanding the hierarchy of the Goldens vs. the Nons isn't hard enough, Lissy's ever-growing Aura Vision is getting harder and harder to hide. If she's not careful, she's going to become a Non faster than you can say freak.

But it's becoming clear that Emory High has a few secrets of its own. Around the halls, the term special powers goes way beyond one's ability to attract the opposite sex, and there may be something more evil than the A-crowd lurking in the classrooms. Lissy can see a lot more than the average girl, but she's about to learn the hard way that things aren't always as they appear and you can't always judge a girl by her lip gloss. • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Yolanda Sfetsos | 2/3/2014

" You know, this book was a lot of fun! And the best thing was that when you start reading this story, even though Lissy is dealing with her Aura Vision pretty much right away, you get the sense that it's just a very simple tale with everyday-type characters. Yet, it's not. There's a mystery weaved into the story, depth, as well as a cast of teenagers and adults that inject this story with a wealth of intrigue. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Marian | 1/30/2014

" I really liked the other two books I read by JLB. I really wanted to like Golden. I really kept getting distracted by all the aura speak and the end confused me so much I read it three times and still only sort of got it. Thank heaves for little sisters who speak the truth? "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Emily | 1/28/2014

" Lissy has the ability to see people's auras. This didn't bother her much until her family moved to Oklahoma and there were some weird auras doing weird things in her school. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Kayla Sloan | 1/19/2014

" It was hard for me to get into this story. The action didn't start until the book was almost over... "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Angie Taylor | 1/3/2014

" Another one where the main character has special powers, and she has to decide whether or not to embrace those powers for the good of others. I didn't like the high school scene drama, which should have added to the story, but instead was a distraction. Not the best, but still a fun ya book. "

" A really engaging story -- though the plot resolved a little fast for me at the end -- but the writing makes it really clear that Barnes wrote this at 19. If you can stomach a little purple prose and like books in the vein of the movie "Mean Girls", worth a read. "
