George Washington’s “Farewell Address” was his vision of the future based on his unprecedented success in the past. He dealt extensively with what presidents should be and do: leadership, modesty, debt avoidance, preparation when appropriate to save money later, a volunteer army, avoiding any permanent foreign allowances, stepping aside and returning to private life and much more. The “Farewell Address” is as important a document as The Constitution, Bill of Rights, or Gettysburg Address.
