" Guard wolves of the Beyond find the development of a wolf suicide cult and cannibalism during a famine to be shocking, but they are not disturbed by wolf swearing, the drinking of blood, and the amassing of bones to build mounds. Small prey animals are portrayed as nothing more than inferior meat, although their blood serves to revive dying wolves. Despite the mysterious setting, the plot quickly becomes uninteresting and the characters elicit little appeal in this 4th book of the series. "
