" I really enjoyed reading this - I think because the two main character interactions are so good. The series sorta trails off - I'm not sure how many books in I got; at least 2, maybe 3 or 4... "

" The characters were rather interesting, but the language was abysmal. The emotional side left me cold and there wasn't enough science fiction to keep me interested either. The concept was interesting enough for me to want to get the sequel though, but if it is as poorly written that will be it for me. "

" Classic Anne McCaffrey. Awesome female protagonist with no annoying qualities. "

" more SiFi than fantasy to be honest. Good detail (as always) and characters are fantastic. The plot didn't really grab me, there was too much other content getting in the way (not exactly 'PG' if you know what I mean. She typically has very colorful series and characters so I have no doubt that the continuing books in this one are great, I just won't be reading them. "

" This novel started off really slow, and I wasn't really getting into it until half way through. I enjoyed the character development but thought that the main characters personality wasn't a little too harsh. I liked the interactions between the characters. And surprisingly the book was relatively short.. "

" I enjoyed this the first time I read it. I like the plot and the characters. However when I read it again recently I paid more attention to the details of how they go about setting up thier new society and i find a lot of improbable aspects. For example they have a shortage for wood even for cooking but they manage to start smithing and a kiln. Where do they get the wood for that let alone makeing steel from iron ore which requires charcoal if you havn't got coal to "cook" carbon into the ore. and It is highly unlikely with thier limited tools to be able to mine much anyway much less find all the different minerals they found in the same area. And why would the first plates the potter makes be "almost round" unless they are pinch pots you can make things round just by seting it on a small peice of rock or somthing and turning hte rock round and round that is what they do in Africa.... Remarking on many of these improbable discrepancies lessened my appreiciation. "

" I always come back for more of this author. This book left me waiting for the next installment. Guess I will have to hit up amazon and see what the plot is going to have in store for the Eosi and Cattini. "

" I've lost track of the number of times I've re-read this book. The spine is starting to fall apart and I'm seriously looking into finding a hardcover edition. I bought the book brand new 8 years ago and have re-read the series at least once a year since. "

" This was a good series to read. A little far fetched at times, but that was ok as the personal interactions between aliens was good. It was an easy read, but enjoyable. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Steve | 6/18/2013

" As I get older, I haven't found the same enjoyment in McCaffrey's series as I used to, so I was hesitant to reread this one. However, I really enjoyed the tale, enough so that when I got back from the business trip, I got the rest of the series from the library. "

" Not my favorite Anne McCaffrey series but they were pretty good. The characters used a lot of slang that felt really awkward. I also felt that things worked out a bit too perfectly all the time. They were fun quick reads though. "
