Publisher Description

Anne McCaffrey captured the interest and hearts of many with Freedom's Landing as Catteni slaves unexpectedly became settlers establishing a new colony on Botany, presumably an uninhabited M-type planet. In Freedom's Choice the saga progresses to an extraordinary level.

The shipments of Catteni slaves continue, but they find that they are enjoyably reinventing the creature comforts of home, and searching for the origin of the Farmers who were the original occupants of Botany, all under the keen eyes of two very different observers. When scouts for the Emassi come to retrieve Zainal, shanghaied in the original shipment of slaves, Botany changes irrevocably. Listeners will delight in this continued adventure of survival, romance, and ingenuity.

"I am reviewing the novel Freedom's Choice by Anne McCaffery which is an excellent science fiction story that I bought from kindle. This is the second installment in the Catteni Sequence series that apparently consists of 4 books not 3. This book keeps your interest throughout and is a good story. The plot is an alien race called the Catteni has conquered the Earth and made much of its urban population into slaves. Many of these slaves have been put on desolate planets to see if they can survive if they die they take that planet off their list of viable planets. If they survive they send more slaves install a puppet ruler and demand a percentage of the crops and goods created on that planet. There is a renegrade Cattani called Zaidani who has fallen for Kris who is from Earth. In the story a army sergaent has become leader of the planet Botany and they all decide they must fight for their freedom. They find a matter transmitter & a space ship that might help them if they can seize them. Also the Cattani try to force Zaidani to go back in the military in his old position. If he doesn't they will punish him and all his relatives. His father and brother try to force him to accept the position and take Kris as his partner. I have done a post on Freedom's Landing the previous installment in this series. This series is sometimes called the unofficial name the freedom series."

" Second book of four-part series. McCaffrey - simple, easy read. Good guys win, bad guys don't always get theirs, but it's coming... has the nice ethos of Star Trek, believing that humans are essentially good. Don't know if I buy that, but makes for stress-free read. Didn't think I'd read past the first volume, now don't think I'll read past the second, but who knows? "

" the colony has survived the hostel planet and has found the farmers, but how can they leave the rest of the universe in cattine powers. what would those who found freedom on their dangerous world and how they will save their homeworlds from domination "

" Again, I noticed more flaws (there are two minor characters who seem to get mixed up all the time...) than when I first read it, but it was still an enjoyable story. Kris and the rest of the unwilling colony continue their improvements of Botany, to the point that they build some real towns. They start having kids and have a friendly encounter with the "Farmers" who own the planet and extend some protection from the Eosi overlords. Kris and Zainal lead a mission to buy supplies, also hijacking a ship and rescuing some more humans. "

" This book was much better than the first in the series, which never quite seemed to know if it was a romance, a sci-fi book, or a castaway adventure. This one is much more clearly sci-fi/space opera. "
