" My mother got my children hooked on this series from her childhood by reading them the first 2 books (The first is "Freddy Goes to Florida"). They have humor that ranges from slapstick, which the kids love, to sophisticated satire, which is completely over their heads. Being written so long ago, these books are not exactly socially progressive, but the kids have been loving them. "

" Well, we got into it as we went along. Obviously very far-fetched, probably best for about 3rd grade. We were intrigued to find out that it was a short story by this same author that inspired the Mr. Ed TV series, and that there are 20+ more books about Freddy (which we won't be reading). "

" I loved this book and plan to read the whole series. Nicholas Kristof, from the NY Times, had an article on his favorite children's books, so I read it and loved it. Clever, sweet, great black and white drawings that you used to see in books like Wind in the Willows. "
