" How is it I'd never heard of Freddy the Pig? This is our first but certainly not our last Freddy book. I picked this up on a whim at a Strand sidewalk sale in NYC and it turns out I'd found a treasure. So funny and definitely accessible 80 years after its publication. "

" My mother got my children hooked on this series from her childhood by reading them the first 2 books (The first is "Freddy Goes to Florida"). They have humor that ranges from slapstick, which the kids love, to sophisticated satire, which is completely over their heads. Being written so long ago, these books are not exactly socially progressive, but the kids have been loving them. "

" Well, we got into it as we went along. Obviously very far-fetched, probably best for about 3rd grade. We were intrigued to find out that it was a short story by this same author that inspired the Mr. Ed TV series, and that there are 20+ more books about Freddy (which we won't be reading). "

" Wonderful series of books about Freddy the pig and the entire barnyard of animals that all talk and do human things, (the cows like to swing, etc.) Although these books are ancient, the humor is still fresh. Great smaller stories interwoven into the larger plot. "
