Publisher Description

Four well-known actresses read these poems by one of the greatest American poets of the nineteenth century. Beginning always with particulars of personal experience, her poems encompass life and death, love and longing, joyfulness and sorrow. With sparse, precise language, she conveys a penetrating vision of the natural world and an acute understanding of the most profound human truths.

Quotes

  • “The quality of her writing is profoundly stirring, because it betrays, not the intellectual pioneer, but the acutely observant woman, whose capacity for feeling was profound.

    — Atlantic Monthly
  • “Read by a group of very talented celebrity women such as Meryl Streep, Sharon Stone, and Alfre Woodard, these pieces lean toward the somber side of Dickinson’s work (which, as her fans know, is very somber indeed).”

    — Amazon.com, editorial review
  • “An enjoyable performance.”

    — Audiofile
  • “If there were ever a poet whose work begged to be heard, it would be Dickinson.”
