Someone's out to get Los Angeles bookseller Adrien English. His best friend has been viciously murdered, now he's getting weird phone calls and sinister gifts from a mysterious admirer. The cops think he's trying to divert suspicion from himself - with the exception of sexy and homophobic homicide detective Jake Riordan. Is Riordan really such a great detective - or does he have a few secrets of his own? Is his offer to help Adrien on the level or is he out to nail his favorite suspect - to the wall?

" I remember reading this (and book 2) when I first got into reading m/m but I guess it didn't move fast enough for me. So now that I'm looking for more of a plot in the stories I read I thought I would come back to this book. I liked it better the second time around. On my way to buy book 3 now. "

" I love Adrien English. This is the first book I read of Josh Lanyon's and I am now a huge fan!! Adrien is charming and witty and one of the most lovable characters I have ever encountered. I am writing this review after having completed the series and the only thing I can say negative about it was that it ended. LOVE IT One of those series that you will want to read over and over. "

" Lanyon makes it all look so easy. The writing disappears and all the reader is left with is the world Lanyon has created. His characters are flawed and human and, sometimes, hilariously funny. I'll read anything Lanyon writes. "

" Josh Lanyon is really one of my favorite authors. He writes a really good story and keeps the tension up between his main characters. I like the plots he comes up with and he takes his time with telling the reader what's going. Not too flowery but a nice chunk of description that creates atmosphere. "

" Adrien is such a wonderful character. I totally fell in love with him. He's smart and witty, a wee bit goofy at times. Can't get enough of his adventures. Special kudos to Josh Lanyon for getting the heart conditon, meds, etc. so accurate. It only makes the story and Adrien more enduring. "

" The plot was a little predictible and the characters were a little stereotyped, but I did mostly like the main character and I always love that his stories are set in California. Feels like they could be happening right down the street. "
