Veteran FBI profiler Maggie O'Dell and Assistant Director Cunningham believed the threat targeted Quantico. It targeted them.
A deadly virus—virtually undetectable until it causes death from a million internal cuts. The victims appear random, but Maggie wonders if vengeance isn't the guiding hand.
An aficionado of contemporary killers, using bits and pieces from their crimes—the Beltway Sniper's phrases, the Unabomber's clues, the Anthrax Killer's delivery.
Maggie knows dangerous minds, but she must tackle this new opponent from within a biosafety isolation ward—while waiting to see if death is already multiplying inside her body. She just fears her last case might end with the most intelligent killer she's ever faced escalating from murder…to epidemic.

"Good book for the most part...wish that the author had not waited until the last pages to finally bring every thing together...seems like all of the detecting was done in the last couple of chapters instead of some clues being dropped along the way." — Ivy (4 out of 5 stars)

" This was a good one, read fast, heavy on the taut suspense. My fave! "
" I started reading Alex Kava after a friend told me she was from Omaha. Her early books are better than her later ones, but this one was okay. A little freaky because it puts into perspective how deadly viruses actually are and how easily they could be used in biological warfare. Had it figured out, but it was an interesting read. "
" Just love this writing style. Keeps me guessing. "
" Very good, not my favorite in the series of the ones i have read. the ending was kind of disappointing.... Maggie O'Dell is still my Favorite female lead character though. "
" This book started out strong, but the ending was rushed and left way too many loose ends. "
" Listened to this book and enjoyed it enough that I'm reading another one he wrote continuing with some of the same characters. "
" The FBI does a medical thriller. A substandard Alex Kava ... but still entertaining. "
" Really descriptively gruesome in places (victims have been purposely given ebola) and the reason the killer did such is very disappointing - a bit of a letdown given the gravity and level of planning involved. Still a pretty good read. "
" A worthwhile read for sure. I listened to it on CD and thoroughly enjoyed the story and suspense, the various locations and characters. "
" A good story about infectious disease. Liked reading about the the female FBI's life. "
" Mystery, not too exciting. I thought it was pretty predictable, but it is an easy quick read by format (very short chapters). "
" This book is somewhat of a departure from Kava's previous topics and book structure, and that is a good thing. I enjoyed the book immensely. "
" not the best book I've read but an easy read. I love medical mystery stuff. "
" Another man for Maggie? C'mon. From what I can tell, so far this and the next book, Black Friday, go pretty close together, as a "third man" of the OKC bombing being the perp in the beginning of BF. "
" Not the most suspensful I've read from this author. "
" Another great Maggie O'dell story. A little slower than the last. "
" Good author. Like his style. Good, good book! Suspense with a capital "S". "
" After I read a serious book, I need to read something for escapism and sheer pleasure. I had not read Alex Kava before, but she kept my attention with this story of FBI agents being exposed to the Ebola Zaire virus. It sounds awful, but this is my kind of escape reading. I'll read her again. "
" A good book. Fairly easy and fast to read. "
" Attempted to read it but really couldn't get into it. "
" I felt like I needed to keep washing my hands. A little creepy but a good storyline. "
" I enjoy the series but the main character is starting to really annoy me when it comes to her relationships w/men. "
" Intense. I may never open the mail again. "
" Enjoying this next book in the Maggie O'Dell series. Listening to it on audio. "
" This series is really great and this book was one of my favorites. I couldn't stop turning the page until I was finished. Great story!! Can't wait for the next one. "
" I never want to come in contact with the Ebola virus. *Shudders* "
" Quick read. I liked it - reminded me of my days at USAMRIID. "
" Fun and occasionally gross-me-out detailed. Just the way bio-terror books should be! "
