All Henry wants is a dog of his own, and even when his best friend moves away, his parents still won't let him have one. " Love dog books! "

" I read this in one fell swoop and was surprised about 3/4 of the way through -- maybe I wasn't reading carefully enough and missed some clues? This was one of those books that made me want to turn back to the beginning and reread as soon as I'd finished it. A sign of a good book. I also kept trying to figure out if there were connections among any of the characters in this book and in her previous "A Dog's Life." I think this one was more cohesive than that. "

" read this aloud to Eryn and Jonas....great story for kids who love dogs...E/J were unsatisfied with parts of it..how the dogs were treated (they should never get thrown out of cars) and they didn't like the fact that we never heard what happened to Squirrel (maybe the next book?) "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Trista | 1/27/2014

" I loved this book almost as much as I loved A Dog's Life. This book tells the story of Bone, the brother of the main character in A Dog's Life. It offers some interesting perspectives in the story. There are some very sad themes so I won't read this book out loud to my students but I will recommend it to a few of them. Very nice story! "

" I love this book! It's my favorite book EVER!!!! <3 it is so sad and heart warming thank you for writing this book "

" A story of Bone, Squirrel's brother. His story is a whole lot less sad than squirrel's, cuz there are a whole lot less deaths. I love the part where I figure out the flashbacks about Sunny are all about his dad. Really sweet story, a must read for heartwarm-seeking people. "

" Enjoyed the story, but I think the multiple story lines are too complicated for the intended audience. "

" I am a sucker for dog stories and this is another "cry while you reading stories". Not as good as "A Dogs Life" but worth reading. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Eileen | 1/16/2014

" This is a sweet story. I like how the seemingly separate stories of the two boys are linked in the end. I was wondering what happened to the dog's sister, Squirrel, and then I saw from the other reviews on this book that her story is told in another book! "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Beth/Sr. Elizabeth | 1/12/2014

" I liked how all the stories eventually came together. I didn't really like None's voice, though. That part was rather repetitive and I thought that Henry and Charlie's chapter were more well written. But a good story. I cried a lot. I am such a softy when it comes to pets. "

" I thought this book was amazing, because I could picture everything I read in my mind and at parts it got intense. But I did get a little bit confused on somethings but overall it was a beautiful book! I have also read the sequel "A Dog's Life" so I was excited to read it too! "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Katie | 9/24/2012

" I really liked this because it was not your typical dog story. Sure there are typical elements, but this one is different. The story is told from three different perspectives and how Martin weaves the three voices into one is very clever! A great and quick read! "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Ingrid | 12/1/2011

" A few years ago I read the A Dog's Story by Ann Martin. That book is about Squirrel, a stray dog and her life as she searches for a family and home of her own. She had a brother, Bone and this is his story. This is a great book that anyone who loves dogs will enjoy. "
