Belching beavers, this is the worst birthday ever for Ereth, the prickly old porcupine! Even his best friend, Poppy the deer mouse, seems to have forgotten about him. If Ereth wants a present, it looks like he'll just have to get it for himself. But when his quest for salt leads him instead to foster parenthood of a litter of boisterous fox kits, a bad birthday becomes the least of Ereth's worries. Return to the Dimwood Forest setting of Poppy and Poppy and Rye for an adventure that's pure fun.

" This is a must read for anyone who is a fan of the Poppy series. The middle is a little slow, but the ending is great! "

" I expected a sweet little story, but it was a little more realistic than that. Characters die, are injured and threaten to eat each other, and the book was a little sad to me, but I loved Ereth and I'm looking forward to reading the other books in the series. If you enjoyed the Nimh books, which I did, then this is a great choice. "

" Finished reading this with my 10-year-old daughter...great read in the Poppy series. Loved the dynamics with the old porcupine and the old and new friends he encounters. This is a great book about discovering some difficult truths about yourself and changing attitudes. Great book to read with a son or daughter. "

" This one is a the second best of the series. It's Andrew's favorite as the protagonist is Ereth, a dirty mouthed porcupine. "
