Publisher Description

"Reread this after having read it in 10th grade. Back then, I only enjoyed reading a novel about the lavish life of Jay Gatsby and the drama that ensued; now, I was able to enjoy Fitzgerald's remarkable writing through the voice of Nick Carraway. The optimism and pursuit of Gatsby's own American Dream makes me wish everyone could be a little bit more like him. I saw an advanced screening of the movie, and this novel is impossible to successfully adapt."

" I enjoyed this much more than I did in high school. OK, this was a total drudge in high school, but so was everything else I was forced to read back then. Life experience can certainly change perspective. "

" My first experience with reading The Great Gatsby was in my high school English class. And I hated this book with a passion, I hated it. I decided to give it another shot, I admit the movie convinced me, to see if it was a hate produced by having to pick apart and dissect the book, or just because I didn't like it. This attempt went a little better. Once the story picked up (as much as it was going to) I found I didn't hate it, but this will never be one of my favorites or high on the like list. Tom drove me nuts with his meddling and idol worship of Gatsby and Daisy is one of the most, if not the most, shallow characters in literature. The only reason this book got three stars from me was due to the symbolism. "

" Glad I waited til I was over thirty to read this book. It is absolutely a classic. F. Scott Fitzgerald was really on top of his game, especially for the first half of the book. "

" It was one of those books where I didn't personalyl like it, but I definitely can appreciate how it was written; the style, the skill, the developement, and such. It was a book for english, which killed half the enjoyment from the very start, but it wasn't too bad "

" I really enjoyed reading the book, because I love the dialogue and the way this era of writer (Hemingway, Fitzgerald), seemed to talk themselves, with quick comebacks and matter-of-fact speech, but the ending happened so quickly, it seemed too abrupt. "

" This book is considered a classic for a reason, raising the hard and persistent question of whether all the good poured into pursuit of the American Dream has been misplaced; whether it might be the case that while remembering how to strive we have forgotten what is worth striving for. "
